Yeah I know...too early, sue me.

Combination of 13 Astros wins or A's losses wins the AL West.

Not too early as far as I’m concerned. Just a handful of games left. Let the countdown begin.

Do they do a champagne and beer celebration in the clubhouse when they clinch the playoff spot? Or only division? I would love to see a clubhouse celebration tonight!

I would honestly hope there's no celebration tonight or when it is clinched. That's no longer the goal.

They didn't last year... that's the best thing you can go by.

They did in 2015 when they clinched the wild card... which they actually did so in a losing effort in a game in Arizona.

i don't know about champagne and beer but they did celebrate as a team on the field once they clinched the division title last year i believe, since they are given hats/shirts

edit: just saw they did celebrate in the locker room as well

It's the only time alcohol is allowed in the clubhouse anymore.

Red Sox had a champagne toast when they clinched their playoff berth. Which seems appropriate when you are 2 weeks out and cruising to a division title. Celebrate that title. Very subdued. If you clinch a wild card spot on the last weekend of the season go nuts. Not when it's a preliminary thing that will get overshadowed by the division.

    Clinching the division, yes.

We're talking about simply clinching a playoff spot (wild card included)... different.

Well let's just count out all the Dallas starts dude is bad. I hope they dont bring him back next year. That money could be spent wisely. Maybe a Verlander and Morton extension

Agreed. I think Josh James will definitely be in the discussion to be in next year's rotation. Maybe McHugh will return to the rotation as well.

He’s number 2 on the team this year with 20 quality starts. He may not be the ace of the staff anymore (and he’s probably not worth ace money) but 200 innings with a 3.70 era isn’t bad.
