I am trading my P-2 400MHZ 256MB SDRAM with a 6 gig hard drive and other basic crap for a $1300 table set, so I am going to need a new(to me) computer.

I'm keeping my 30 gig hard drive with all of my data, so I'm looking for a barebones type of system. I don't play PC games often, so I don't need the latest and greatest.

I found this barebones system on ebay.

    What do you guys think?

Pretty nice for the price. I would personally get a larger HD and some more memory, but then again my computer is my life

    It will do Pimp.

go get a older vid card (64M should do for non-gaming and is cheap these days) and upgrade the RAM to 512 and you should be set.

well, your first link had more pci slots and a faster processor

but the second one has faster max FSB speeds..

either one should do you well...add in a good vid card...a nice 7200 rpm hard drive, and add some more RAM..and you have a good computer.

so, that Dell is 499 with the monitor??

alll you will need to add to that is another 256 stick of RAM and you are set.

you get everything you need for just over $200 more than the barebones stuff?

    go for it.

How much blood would I have to sell before I could buy the PowerMac G5?

Plus a $100 rebate to bring the package down to $399 before tax.

I went ahead and got this one, adding an SB Live Sound card and upgrading to a 7200RPM hard drive. It should come out to about $480 after tax.

I'm not sure if they are giving me one 256mb stick or 2-128 sticks. If it's 2 sticks, I may pull them out and get one 512 stick, then toss in a cheap GeForce 64MB video card with TV-out.

Good choices...SB Live is always a good card..I would get a ATI AIW card...a Radeon 7500 should be pretty cheap by now..I use it to cap Rockets games...and it works great..You can probably get one for under $100.

From the Dells I have seen, they will have a 256 stick in there..you should have 2 empty slots to upgrade your RAM.

    Enjoy it...wish I could get a new one...my measly AMD 2000xp+ with 512 M DDR is getting a little slow these days...:D
