Hard fought game but just way too many mistakes. I still don't understand how you don't pound away with Warren.
GG. I didn't like that Herman went for it on 4th instead of kicking the FG on our first possession. I get that we're expecting a shootout and needing TDs, but having points on the board early is good for confidence. Then again, our kicker isn't great and it was about a 40 yd FG, I believe. Sometimes, Herman is a bit too aggressive, even for CFB.
I expected us to lose this game by 20+ points. It hurts to get so close and lose, especially with play calling that felt like Herman getting too clever for his own good. However, that was the best defense I've seen since my junior year of college in 2010. I really hope Herman can continue to inspire that type of play from these guys, especially against OU. Ehlinger looked good once he found a rhythm in the second half. His size is a clear advantage over Buechele. Here's to the rest of the season.
Not going for two in overtime will haunt Herman. This is your national championship game. Make a gutsy call and end it right there. There are no moral victories to be had.
Ehlinger is gritty but not ready, he made far too many big mistakes....and the play calling at the 1 yard line when you have Warren was idiotic. Buechele should look immediately to transfer he is not as good as Ehilinger even though he is not quite ready. DD
Agreed. You're a 17-pont underdog with a chance to win against the #4 team in the country. Worst case, you lose and let your team know you aren't afraid to believe in their ability to win.
There was finally some real comeback and Texas Fight from the Longhorns. It sucks to lose this game, or any game, but it's not a conference game and this team still has a conference championship to play for. The team needs to learn from this loss (coaching staff included) and hopefully this game and this desire/grit to win will translate into victories in the near future. There are just too many take aways here to worry about the refs or one play call. It is minimizing what the Longhorns did tonight, even though they came up just short.
I agree with going for 2, but I think you do it specifically because you *don't* believe in their ability to win a longer game. You're basically saying you know we're the worse team so we have to try to win it now because we're more likely to lose if this keeps going.
Losing at home to the likes of Maryland is what screwed us. This loss would be more palpable considering the effort they gave had they not been a no show at home in week 1.
