    JV's regular spot (5th day) is Sunday. The twin-bill has nothing to do with it. The Astros have been using an increased rotation for a while.

    And did Hinch not already know McHugh "needed every start he could get" 3 weeks ago when he was pitching every six days?

    The Astros haven't been using an extended rotation for a while. There was no pitching every 6 six days three week ago. Prior to this week, the rotation was:

    Keuchel - Peacock - McHugh - Morton - Fiers (in whatever order)

    McCullers and Verlander just had their first starts Tuesday and Wednesday; Fiers was removed at that point. Since they have the double header, they are running out a 6th guy (but don't need to), but that will be the first time around we have a 6 man rotation, and it's probably the end of it too, with Peacock probably going back to the bullpen (unfortunately).
