I have an outstanding speeding ticket (along with a trumped up "failure to report change of address" charge  ) that I missed a court date for. So I got something in the mail and there are 2 amounts listed. One amount says fine and the other amount says bond. The bond is twice the amount of the fine.

So do I have to pay both of them? Any way around this?

Honestly, I'd go up to one of those attorneys that are all around the courthouse (assuming this is in Houston). They'll probably be able to help you out.

    F*ck the Police!!!

I think you only have to pay the fine. Bond is what you would pay to get out of jail but you're in TX and I'm in AR so the laws may vary.

If you missed a court date, and there's a bond required, then there might be a warrant out for you as well. Call the court up and ask them what the status is on your case, and exactly how much you need to pay.

My son-in-law had a ticket for an expired inspection sticker. Rather than simply getting the car inspected (should have passed with no problems), he chose to ignore the ticket. With bonds/warrants he now owes over $300.00 for a ticket that would have been dismissed once proof of inspection was shown.

That's what I was hoping, but isn't that what BAIL is? What's the difference between BOND and BAIL?

I have a warrant for my arrest.

It is a 250 dollar fine i have to pay to the city of bellaire.

I heard that if you show up to their place to pay, they rather not take the money but arrest you instead. Is this true?

We have a couple of criminals on the loose.

Stevie Thompson, Syracuse Orangemen, had like 250 unpaid parking tickets at one point. I think he had 4.0 GPA too. Ridiculous.

That's what I heard. That's why I don't want to call them directly. It's irrational I know, but hey...I'm paranoid, what can I say.

Here's what my lawyer friend sent me when I asked him if I need to pay both the Bond and Fine amounts.

Pay only one. If you want to go to court, pay the bond and you will
be issued a new court date. This will work if you want to take defensive
driving. After you appear in court and take the defensive driving course
you will get the bond money back.

If you want to pay the ticket, pay the fine. DO NOT pay both.

    Just made my day. :D
