exactly right...even teams that don't claim to be losing money are cutting back on payroll this season. why would the astros be any different? it's not like they're at the bottom of the barrel in player payroll.

    Because teams are cutting payroll??

I think I lost respect for the game when they gave Alex Rodrigez 250 million dollars.

That's what it took to lose respect for MLB? The inability of the owners and players or is it the players and owners to play nice with each other and forge a working platform to spread the wealth is what did it for me.

Back to McLane. My biggest unhappiness with him is that all he (seems to) talk(s) about is $, $-$-$. His decisions on how to spend his payroll is the problem with the roster, not the players or the total player budget.

Drayton McLane is, IMO, revered by the suit crowd but does not connect with the masses who make up the fan base in this market.

But one could argue that one of the reasons he does mention money is because he's constantly being called out to spend more money. One could argue that he's merely defending himself by noting that the Astros spend what the revenues dictate.

One could argue that. Not this one, however.

It's ok to love and honor McLane. I don't. He's not horrible and not bad. It's his team and he keeps my baseball support at bay. He does not connect with me because I don't cry for him, won't cry for him, won't die for his team.
