Both are bad owners but they are bad in the opposite way. Sterling is the classic douchebag bloodsucking businessman type. He didn't really want to field a winning team. He just wanted to make money out of it. His team was always near the bottom so they could get high picks and exciting young talents to keep the fans coming. But once the rookie contracts expire, he'd get rid of them some way and the cycle started again.

Dolan on the other hand is not a penny pincher. He thinks he can just throw out money to buy a winning team. And he blindly trusts big names such as Isiah Thomas (who pretty much dug the deepest hole a franchise could dig in his tenure as the Knicks GM) and Phil Jackson to manage his team. Sometimes you have to wonder how he can be so rich being so dumb.
