And they let both Chinese and US advance, I just thought that if this is a small federation, most likely this is not going to be the way things will occur. Maybe I was wrong on that.
Yeah, that's what typically happens. If a runner is interfered with in a prelim or semi, they get advanced to the next round. But there has to be a lane open or a mass start (like the Steeplechase, 5K, 10K). I'm guessing there wasn't an open lane in the next round which is why the US is given the chance to run again instead of being automatically advanced.
Exactly. These American women trained for years to have their chance in a fair race. It doesn't matter what country they are from. All the athletes should be treated equally.
And there is precedent, in this Olympics no less, of rerunning a completed race. Protest was filed by Jamaica. http://http://sports.yahoo.com/news/jamaican-hurdler-second-chance-000000283.html The idea that the U.S. won it's appeal because of who we are is ludicrous and defies the very spirit of the games. Besides the fact that we've lost numerous other protests, in this case a clear violation occurred. Hell their rerun time was the fastest of all teams but they won't get a preferred lane because it was a do-over.
This is simple: there was interference in a race that requires the runners to stay inside their own lane. Replays (and common sense) clearly indicate a violation occurred; a violation that quite obviously impacted the outcome of the race. End of story. Now, let's be very clear about something: there was NO advantage gained by Team USA being granted this "second chance". None. Whatsoever. Because of this their #1 and #2 runners had to run an extra race at a time when sprinters conserve every ounce of energy possible. Plus, more importantly, there's simply no way you can simulate a race-like scenario when you're running by yourselves. Runners need competition. Nobody wants to run by themselves. This whole process, which successful in correcting a problem, all boils down to extra time and extra hassle for Team USA. Trust me, these runners wanted nothing to do with this, but these rules exist for a reason.
It's pretty straightforward...you can't interfere with another team's pass off...they did, so they were DQ'ed and USA gets another shot. Don't discount the extra pressure they face from doing it over and with no competition on the track.
At the risk of being called a Chinese or LOF, I must jump in and tell you that I think there is a huge advantage in a rerun like the 4x100 relay. If you ever did this sport you'd know that the single biggest risk in a relay is interference. Drop that club and you are out. Now, let them 4 girls run it alone is like a practice. No advantage? Don't say that pal To the others who say our girls needed a second chance, do you think it'd be okay to rip the Chinese girls off their right which they did earn?
Interference is a risk so... the U.S. should be out of luck and not have a fair shot? The logic is just stupid. It's unfortunate for China, but it's not ripping the Chinese off of anything. The race wasn't any easier for them to run when they did it by themselves so what advantage did they gain? What you're claiming then is that these girls perform worse during the actual meet than they do in practice. Just for good measure, these group of girls is expected to compete for the gold medal in this relay with Jamaica. If they hadn't been blatantly interfered with, they would have made the final. Period. In the end, they got it right whether you like it or not.
You're wrong. So wrong. This is the best 4x100 relay team in the world and part of dominating these type of races is being able to measure your progress against your opponents in real-time. A "glorified practice" setting is far from an advantage when all you know is you have to beat "XX.XX" time in order to qualify.
