I was starving last night and for the first time in months was craving a chicken fried steak yet was too lazy/hungry to cook (huge mistake). Decided I'd try Peete's here in Marble Falls. Easily the worst restaurant meal I've had in years, I can probably count on one hand the number of times I've sent food back due to it being inedible, but this was one of them. Way too salty, what little meat there was inside the ridiculous amount of breading was half gristle. Gravy obviously came from a mix and was cut with water not milk and then scorched, spinach was straight out of a can. Ended up with a mediocre hamburger. **** you, Peete. Never again.

Was the Blue Bonnet Cafe closed or something?

The Blue Bonnet is tolerable, but somebody told me they ate something good at Peete's so I thought I'd give them a try.

Ordering a cfs at any restaurant is usually a terrible move, I knew this but ignored my better judgement. I have no idea why places are so amazingly good at screwing up what is a pretty simple dish to prepare.

Yep, ordering CFS is usually a mistake - so many people mess up something so simple. I blame SYSCO/ARAMARK

The best two CFS i've had in Texas:
Fort Davis Drug Store and Hotel and surprisingly Mia's (a Carrabba brothers restaurant)

Fort Davis is a long drive but if you can try Mia's, it's right off Kirby next to the original Carrabba's - the jalapeno cream gravy is spectacular. Spectacular I say!

Its amazing how hard it is for restaurants to get CFS cooked properly... and then half the time they do they ruin it by packaged gravy.

I've almost quit eating them out and rely on cooking them at home.

Got a chunk of venison out of the freezer last night and am taking matters into my own hands this evening.

Last time I ordered CFS at a restaurant it was at Salt Grass Steakhouse (I had a gift card) about 2 years ago. Could not have been worse. I'm pretty sure the "steak" was an old hamburger patty. I couldn't eat more than a few bites. Waiter asked if I liked it, I was honest, he then offered to have the chef make me another or something else, but I turned down the offer.

Chicken fried steak? What is this, 1985?

Who would rather eat that vs. a normal steak or some smoked bbq?

Went to Sud Italia Ristorante in West U a few months ago and it was easily one of the worst meals I've had. The seafood dish I got was completely overcooked and not sure if it was seasoned at all, seriously I'm not sure if there was even salt added. Can't even tell you the last time I sent food back but this was inedible. The manager did take care of it on the bill but just wasn't sure how food could even come out like that. Service was extremely slow as well.

And yes I still look back and wonder why I even ordered fish at an Italian restaurant.

Curious if you left a tip.

Bad restaurant stories aren't complete without mention of the tip.

Crisp in the Heights. I've been there 3 times, all 3 times I felt sick just trying to eat the food. Horrible cooks or something, just loathe the place.

Stopped by Prima Pasta on Kirby one time. ONE time. It tasted like it came form a high school cafeteria.

El Real Tex-Mex = Worst Tex Mex in probably Texas. Casa Ole even microwaves their food better.

BTW- Not a chicken fried steak lover, but a BIG fan of chicken fried chicken. I've not found one better than at the Breakfast Klub.

Small one. The waiter was ok but could have been better, IIRC.

I don't think I've been to any Landry's owned restaurants since then, and I'm a Landry's Rewards member so I probably have some free meals by now.

Agreed on Prima Pasta. I went there twice. Why did I go a second time? I have no idea. Should have just gone to Two Guys Pizzeria nearby.

But I strongly disagree on your assessment of El Real Tex Mex! I've never eaten there, but there's no way it's worse than this place in Livingston called Pueblo Viejo. Only people born and raised in Livingston - who don't know any better - would think this is good tex mex. If someone here on CF is able to drive out there and eat this food without gagging, I will reimburse all of your expenses for the trip and the meal. Doesn't matter how much you drink of their lukewarm, pre-made in the morning "margarita" that they leave SITTING OUT IN THE OPEN, this place is impossible to enjoy.

I do that stuff myself when I'm in the mood to eat that stuff.

You are an embarrassment to the State of Texas.

Also, when did BW3 turn into complete crap? Went often in Houston back in the day, went to one in San Antonio a few weeks ago and it was just godawful. Precooked frozen wings from Walmart are probably higher quality.

El Real is great, you shut your mouth

Also, if you're looking for a good CFS and happen to be in Ft. Worth, Reata is your place. I've also heard good things about Horseshoe Hill, but haven't been there.
