Got a question for anyone that has some knowledge of cable tv setup. I got roadrunner installed recently, but didn't get the cable tv because I already have sattelite. I tried plugging my tv into the new coax outlet, and sure enough I can't get cable. A friend of mine said he ordered roadrunner, and said it comes with basic cable. So my question is, is there a filter or something that is preventing me from getting a cable tv signal? I'm pretty sure I'm not supposed to be getting a tv reception, but it would be nice since I only have two sattelite receivers.

It is filtered, but Im not sure if it is filtered at your home or at their place.

and AFAIK, basic cable does not come with high-speed cable internet access..they are different services provided over the same cable.

[IMG] : Ill hook you up with free cable, but youll have to be my best friend afterwards.

Seriously, I believe the cable company actually has to come out and flip a switch or something in a junction box, which is usually in someone's backyard.

I am pretty sure you aren't even getting the necessary signal through your line.

Cable is separate from Road Runner service. If you only order Road Runner, they put a filter on your line so you cannot watch any channels. If you order basic cable, they put a different filter on so that you can watch Channels 2-22 only. These filters are "supposed" to be put on at the junction box but a lot of technicians don't care.

Ok, so now all I need is one of my fellow cc.net'ers to come over and remove this filter in exchange for a few cold ones :D

I think you can do this.

Go to RadioShack or Best Buy or something, and buy a cable splitter, and a good cable wire.

From your wall, the cable wire should be sticking out. Put the splitter in that cable thing.

    "the wall"

The cable that goes to your modem thing goes in slot one, your tv cable thing goes in to slot two.

See if that works. That is what is going on in my room.

However, I am a cable tv user.

    The drawing might not work.

Eh, drawing doesnt work, just move the second lines. I am trying to draw a box.

I guess the old AT&T Cable people here in the northern suburbs of the Metroplex were just really nice to subscribers. I ordered cable internet service, and they guy came and hooked it up, telling me that he also gave me cable television, which I had not requested.

I was never billed for the cable television.

I had a friend up in McKinney who had the same experience.

And back in Arlington, where I couldn't get cable internet (6 more months was the answer to when it would be available. Of course, they said that for three years), I had cable at first, and then I got the satellite. This was before you could get the local channels on the satellite, so I ordered the very basic cable that gave me the local networks.

Apparently, you need a filter for that, too, as they gave me pretty well all the channels one could get without a cable box. Something like 60-some-odd channels.

When I was in Amarillo, though, the cable company made you subscribe to cable to get cable internet, so I went ahead and paid for cable.

It's too bad the DSL installers didn't give me free phone service when they installed my DSL. :)

I'm posting on Roadrunner only service, but I'm watching my free HBO while doing so. But yeah, just find your cable junction box and unscrew the little cylindrical filter thingy that's attached to your line. Then screw the line back into the spot where it was, free of filter. Oh, and there might be more than one filter on it, so just unscrew them all. Don't worry, it doesn't mess up your Roadrunner if you do this.

Can't they (the cable company) tell? I mean, wouldn't that send some kind of signal back to them?
