    Former UConn standout Jeff Adrien is alleged to have coaxed a new Mercedes-Benz away from a parking valet before subsequently going on a six-hour joy ride, according to TMZ.

    After returning the vehicle, Adrien was reportedly arrested for grand theft auto and later released on $25,000 bail.

    To make matters worse, the owner of the car alleges that it smelled like mar1juana after the six-hour ordeal, per TMZ.

    I know he retained the car for six hours, but if Adrien never had the intent to steal, how can this be grand theft auto?

    Did he take the car? (Yes)
    Did he have permission from the owner to take the car? (No)

    I would say based on the answer to the above 2 questions that Grand Theft Auto can be proven. The amount of time he had the car isn't irrelevant (and is a mitigating factor). But for the actual charge it essentially is.
