EVO X has a better performance oriented AWD system but the WRX/STI has the better inclement weather AWD system which the OP is looking for. And the nice thing about a WRX/STI is they are still making new ones so that means new car warranty and modern amenities standard(bluetooth system, heated seats etc).

Subaru Outback. If you want "luxury", you can get the H6 engine with all leather.

Subaru Forester 2.0 XT turbo (touring trim)

    250hp, 0-60 in 6.4. AWD, spacious, under 37,000

Safe, especially if wife is driving.

Outback is nice, but too big and slow (depends on your needs)

Why are you spending so little for a weekend car?
