Today I stopped by the gas station to pick up stamps to stick on my letters to lover boy. I wanted one of those packs that cost around 7 bucks, but they only had a pack of 10 so I paid the lady $4.49. When I got back in the car I noticed there was a price under the price I paid for $4.19. Then being the smarty that I am I figured 10 X 37 cents is not $4.49. Do we pay tax on stamps? Or should I go back and demand some more stamps from this lady?

You are not supposed to pay any more than the stamp price. But it is within the rights of a stamp seller to raise the price if the stamps are deemed collectable or of a higher value than the standard issue stamp.

Well, it's kind of common knowledge that some gas stations/convenience stores sell stamps and mark them up to make a profit. That's the price you pay for not getting them at a post office or grocery store. It's a convenience cost. Otherwise, they have no reason to sell stamps.

a 20 count sheet or book of stamps cost $7.40.

    stamps cost .37 cents.

I think you should have paid $3.70 for ten stamps.

So where do I get my Math PhD at now?

The gas station was simply making a profit, if they charged you the exact value of the stamps they wouldn't have made any money. You didn't get ripped of per se, but you did pay a little extra for being able to buy them at the gas station.

    It's karma.

I just remembered last week I bought 3 stamps at the grocery store for $1.11 but the chic gave me a thing of stamps that had them on the front and back without knowing. So I ended up with 6 stamps. I thought about taking them back but I never did. I've paid my price now, score! ;) The world is now balanced once again.

Mail Boxes Etc. does the same thing. They charge a lil bit more than the post office for profit sake. So I wouldn't say they are ripping you off.

One time in college I went to the gas station to buy some smokes. I gave the guy a $10 bill, and he proceeded to give me like 16 cents in change.

I said, "Man, I gave you a ten."

    "A ten?" the guy asked.

    "Yup, a ten," I clarified.

So the guy proceeds to give me change for a $20.

I thanked him and went on my merry way.

You know what pisses me off? When you go to one and stand there trying to pump for like five minutes before they tell you to pay beforehand.

Just put a sign up, *******.

Not for stamps. They do shipping along with postal services.
