What a shot! You can tell this may be our year. Jamey Wright had an unbelievable night against us, had the Stros shut down... Lopes left him in to close it out in the 9th, and with 2 outs Vinny takes him deep for a 2-run shot. Astros lead 3-2.
I think the Astros theme song should be the same as Undertaker's entrance music..."keep rolling, rolling, rolling..
The sign of a special team is that they win games they get outplayed in. That's what happened tonight. Great game!! Anytime you get a W with Mlicki on the mound is a good night.
This was the game I thought would be the most difficult to win - their #1 (Sheets has fallen off), vs. our #5. to make gettingdeshieldsed even happier, he'll be thrilled to know that: A.) Shane Reynolds is coming back tomorrow. B.) Tim Redding is coming back up, giving us another killer bullpen arm. C.) The Cubs could have signed Castilla...but wouldn't guarantee him a starting job. How happy would you guys be to be paying league minimum for a 20 HR 3B, with a solid glove, who could fit in behind So(u)sa(r)? But what are you gonna do? This could be our year. We have 1 of the top 3 1-2 setup-closer combos in the league, right up with Stanton-Rivera, and Nelson-Sasaki, if not better, an offense to die for (most of the time), and a 4 man rotation with 2 veteran workhorses, and 2 young studs. We've been extremely clutch lately. Our pen didn't give up anything in the Reds series, and they went 4 scoreless tonight. Probably approaching 15 straight scoreless.
this is our yr,thats all that needs to be said as for cubs fans, such as gettinbranded, start following the wildcard, because the division is ours(i dont care how many times we play down the stretch) this is the best team in the nl and i fear no team in the playoffs honestly i think the cubs miss the playoffs barely, likely edged out by the giants
There's gettinhundleyed !!!!! Where ya been bud? It's not so fun trolling when your team is out of first huh?
What do you guys think Vinny's value should be after this season? He is a good hitting, good fielding 3B who is getting on in the years a little bit. What kind of contract, if any, do you think the Astros should tender to this guy?
Resigning Castilla depends upon a number of items. At the top of the list is the health of Spiers. If he's healthy, I doubt they'll even offer Vinny a contract. Otherwise, I'd go with 5 million for 2 years (2.5 per year). However, I am not sure how baseball's current contract reads. You may only be able to offer someone a certain percentage of their previous salary as a salary cut. Also, if the Astros sign Alou, I suspect that Castilla is gone and they'll make do with Spiers (if healthy), Truby and Ensberg. I think they'd love for Ensberg to step up and take the job. They'd have him cheap for the next 3-4 years.
