Graphing Calculator Consideration

    I'm deciding to switch graphing calculators after spending the better part of 4 years with my TI-83. I'd like to stay with TI (I was never a huge fan of Casio, but I will say that the PRIZM is great). I've considered two calculators:

    • TI-89/Voyage 200 - Very powerful capabilities, but a little on the expensive side
    • TI-Nspire CX CAS - About the same as above, just with a little brighter display (I love using the Nspire GUI and am familiar with it despite what people say)


    Any suggestions?

    I got my HP-48G 16 years ago and still use it on a daily basis at work and home.

    best. graphing. calculator. ever.

    i dumped by TI-85 in the mid 1990s for it.

    isn't it amazing that graphing calculators are 15 yr old technology... yet still costs the same as an iphone...

    Cost of manufacturing must have gone down dramatically, but the price hasn't. I wonder why that is.

    Never used an N-Spire but TI-89 is quite powerful and can do everything you would need it to (probably) at a cheaper price.

    my calculator cost me peanuts at a pawn shop. Pretty new TI-89 cost me 10 bucks because apparently it's not as in demand as the 83s

    I never remember needing anything beyond a TI-30 for calculus. If you're in engineering you'll need a TI-89ish calculator for some classes...the solve function is a huge help with systems of linear equations... classes like engineering math, statics, and circuits are a lot easier with it.

    The Nspire is an absolutely amazing calculator.
    Definitely the best one I have ever used. I recommend that one.

    I've had an 89 since 6th grade. It's a great calculator. Stay away from the bigger 92 etc.
