The cost of shedding salary is rising as the cap levels off, and Anderson doesn't pique interest the way he did when all stretch 4s needed to do was shoot threes. Worse still: If there's a franchise that can find value in a spot-up specialist who doesn't have the defensive chops to consistently man one position, it's supposed to be Mike D'Antoni's Rockets. Their attempt to bail on him thus eviscerates whatever intrigue he might have engendered.

He would of gotten 15 mil on the overpayed market anyways. Houston had to add to there roster, and nobody was coming last year. so there ya go. why is this being mention again? kinda point less to keep bring up spilt milk. Look how much Bismack got from raptors, and turned into scrub. PLus ryan anderson is a heck of a player, not a star, but closes you get to a semi star.
I think he got 25% over what he was worth. It was the first summer of an inflated FA, it is hard to discern value. Now, with that said, with Cp3 and James, don't sleep on how much easier it will be to move that contract come next season. People will warm to Ryno once again.

But, that being said, all these contracts were given out for one reason or another, and they all were the result of various circumstances. Anderson probably is the #1 worst PF contract in the NBA, simply because none of the guys listed above are PF's.
Ryan Anderson contract is a freaking nuclear waste dump site. I have no doubt it is the main reason Melo isn't a Rocket. What a hack job by Morey on this one.

half of these guys are pf's or actually play the pf position in small ball. good ol positionless basketball oh and some of these guys don't even play
I would go as far as saying ryan anderson and Mbah a Moute might work better than melo alone. Reason 1 is melo is 33, well be 34 come playoff time. Hes not the olympican he once was, and hes not the nugget either. I personally think maybe coming off the bench for houston while harden and Paul rest would be ok. But might as well let Mbah a Moute and Tucker come in defensively , Houston has enought offense like it has been said. Melo sucks at defense and its just gonna get worse with age, as well as his brick %....
I'm thinking Anderson might be better this year with CP3 and Harden on the same team. He was forced to play 5 when Nene went down and the Rockets have gotten some good defenders this off season. I know he didn't play well in the playoffs but he didn't have a bad year overall. He should be measured by the whole year.
Anderson's contract is def terrible. Even McD's doesn't make a mistake of over paying their role employers like @swyyyguy
But it isn't a matter of Anderson and MAM vs. Carmelo, but simply Anderson vs. Carmelo. MAM is around in either scenario.

He led the Mavericks in scoring by a comfortable margin while tallying surprisingly efficient clips in isolation (45.7 percent) and out of the post (47.6 percent). Dallas' most popular lineups featured Barnes at the 4, where he tackled both explosive and traditional defensive assignments with relative ease. He wasn't enough to roll out at power forward when Dirk Nowitzki played the 5, but the dependability oft-overlooked during his time with the Warriors shone through. There alot of semi stars in the the league that get over paid. They can sometimes be cornerstones to nba championships thou... Alot of times 3 stars dont work for a team. aka pip barkley , two older players nearing there mid 30's kinda like paul, melo.
