As long as we stay out of “Temple” Arizona, the machines can’t get us.

    We don’t stand a chance.

This was inevitable, you can't expect autonomous vehicles to be fully ready to be 100% error proof, nor will that ever be attainable.

But I still feel very strongly that within the next decade this will become the norm and will significantly cut down on vehicle related casualties.

Inevitable indeed. But shouldn't you have someone behind the wheel in case they have to override something? Or a killswitch or...?

Imagine what Russian self-driving cars are going to do. If the programmers drive like maniacs....

I believe in this instance there was a human inside the vehicle.

The autonomous autos need a larger IoT infrastructure in place before they can operate better, but unfortunately IoT has a massive security problem. Perhaps blockchain could help with making processes trustless, but its a scary thought that somebody out there could hack a fleet of a million self-driving cars and make them do whatever they wanted.

Sounds like a job for Mark Zuckerberg.

Admittedly, I have no idea what loT or blockchain are, and until right now I've never needed to and I've been ok with that.

Picture an autonomous vehicle is driving in harsh winter conditions.

The bridge up ahead may be extremely icy and therefore the car will need to adjust speed to navigate it successfully.

The bridge has an embedded circuit hard-wired to it in order to give constant readouts of the bridge's structural integrity and current condition for driving.

This is IoT in a nutshell, on-demand access to bigger, better, real-time data to make better decisions and automate more and more processes that were once only done by humans.

But the integrated circuit is just a simple system using a very low amount of bandwith on a nationwide cellular network, which can be easily accessed by a hacker.

Blockchain allows the IoT system to send a smart contract through a decentralized system, the contract is verified by a large network of nodes on the blockchain mainnet, making it nearly impossible to break the chain and interfere with the command.

So eventually, the autonomous vehicle will ping the upcoming bridge and analyze the current data read-out, and then automatically make necessary adjustments for safe navigation.

    Nice writeup, thanks man.

Is it ok if I just drive my own trucks until I die?

Die? In the future there will be no death. You'll have to punch your own ticket to get off this rock.

    Honestly, I wouldn't mind a bionic knee or 2.

    Keep me posted.

The woman was jaywalking so it’s possible she could have been hit by a human driver as well.
