Who exactly is on the roster right now? I'm confused.

Bruno Caboclo's signing to an Exhibit 10 deal makes it 16 guaranteed contracts, unless the Rockets have decided to send him to the RGV, as a 2 way player. Melton is yet to be signed. Rob Gray is signed to training camp.

 

Did you have any particular players in mind? Or some potential guys who fit that description?

 

Exhibit 10s *cannot* be guaranteed contracts (cannot have compensation protection). And Bruno cannot convert to a 2-way, because he has too much NBA tenure to receive a 2-way.

Since Exhibit 10s are typically for receiving rights to convert them to 2-ways, but Bruno can't have a 2-way contract, count on this Exhibit 10 being mainly for the purpose of pseudo-retaining him in the event he doesn't make the team, and we waive him. Exhibit 10s have a bonus (Bruno's is the $50,000 max bonus) that is paid even if Bruno is waived, but to get it, he must sign with RGV and stay for 60 days, ie, not signing with another team.

The bonus is like a retainer for 60 days of RGV services.

This is not a real big deal (wrt main 15-man roster), as Exhibit 10s are 1-yr, non-guaranteed contracts. We can cut both players, or convert to 2-ways*, or keep on main roster (unlikely). Even if we cut them, the Exhibit 10s have a bonus that the player can collect if they sign with RGV and play for 60 days. Because of this bonus that they can collect (even if cut), the Exhibit 10s act as an incentive for the player to continue letting us give them a look in G-League, but they lose it if they sign with another team before 60 days.

This looks like an interesting Morey-esque work around that incentivizes Bruno to stay in the Rockets overall system. He could leave if he’s waived after training camp, but doing so leaves money on the table. It’s in his best interest to stay.

 

I thought we were only allowed two exhibit 10 contracts

"Teams are allowed to have up to two players on Two-Way contracts at any time, and teams receive additional roster spots beyond the standard 15 in order to do so" [...]

"A Two-Way player is signed using Exhibit 1B of the Uniform Player Contract. A Two-Way contract can be for one or two seasons."

"If a standard NBA contract includes an attachment called Exhibit 10, the team receives the right to convert the contract to a Two-Way contract [...] prior to the start of the regular season (including during the July Moratorium)."

"A team can have no more than six contracts that contain an Exhibit 10 in effect at any time."

 

If Deng Adel was really all that Clutchfans thought he was he'd be signed by now guaranteed.

Stop acting like a top executive doesn't recognize the talent HE put on his own summer league roster. He's got a method.

Vince Edwards hasn't played as well as Deng in the Summer League. No GM is perfect. Nanu was after all picked by Morey too.

There have been a lot of D and G league players on the RVG who aren't as as good as Deng is.
