he's the few that has consistently been in good movies than not imo. I think leo is following on those footsteps as he gets older.
Have to mention Magnolia, a terrific, if quirky, flick with a great ensemble cast. One of them is Tom Cruise, with a superb performance playing a character I won't attempt to describe. At one point in the film, hundreds of big frogs fall from the sky. A man scuba diving in Lake Tahoe is scooped up by one of those airplanes fighting a fire and dumped on the fire. All sorts of crazy things happen, yet it all makes sense in a weird, twisted way.
Never understood the hate for Tom. He is a good actor and has consistently churned out box office hits, even at an advanced age, while doing action movies as a midget to boot.
Agreed on Mummy. Not a good movie but enjoyed it because he was in it and made it entertaining. At some point in the last 10 years I realized everything he’s in is at least watchable because he’s in in. Even those Jack Reacher movies. Dude seriously still has it. The best of late are Oblivion, Edge of Tomorrow. American Made and the Mission Impossible movies.
I think it’s the Scientology that turns folks off. I don’t care, he usually is good in sci fi and action movies.
Tom Cruise is a weird dude but I enjoy pretty much everything he puts out. Edge of tomorrow is brilliant. Oblivion is good as well and has a fantastic picture quality. Very underrated movies. The last Reacher movie was pretty bad. The mummy was a terrible move but I was entertained.
I like the one where he saves the world. I can't remember the name but he did his own stunts in it. Also this
The Mission Impossible one. That just came out. Didn't it get like a 93% on rotten tomatoes? Cruise is still putting out bangers man.
I should have added to my post that Edge of Tomorrow is the last film from him that I really enjoyed - I'm not big on Jack Reacher or Mission Impossible, but they seem to be good movies. I haven't seen Made in America but it looks good - Collateral may be my favorite of all his movies. He needs to play a bad guy more often.
I may be alone and I know the film didn't do very well in theaters but I'm a big fan of "Knight and Day". I just thought Cruise and Diaz had good chemistry and, for what they were trying to do, it worked. I thought the tone of the film fit what Tom Cruise brings. It had the action and it didn't take itself seriously. The airplane action at the start of the film set the tone throughout. I enjoyed it and I've watched it multiple times. I honestly don't understand why it didn't do better as far as reviews and in theaters. But, we all like what we like. I'm not going to bow my head in shame for liking it just because someone else finds it dumb or no good.
Weren't they good in Vanilla Sky as well, or did I just end up imagining things? Prolly had better chemistry with his then GF Penelope.
