I personally think this is completely stupid. Even strictly speaking from a business perspective, this is bad for the US. It puts China and India at the top as leaders in the agreement and puts them in line to clearly lap the US in investing in new energy technology.

Even energy companies this morning are speaking out against this move because even they realize the realities of climate change, and how the markets will shift to new clean energy technology.

It looks like Trump is making this move because he thinks it will be popular with his "Coal Cheerleader" coalition like Texx who think Coal is the wave of the future, and how losing those jobs (which employ less than Solar) is going to cost him an election.

How will this impact the investment in new energy technology in the US? Obviously you've done the analysis, so please share your thoughts with me.

Yes, he's as bad as he thought he might be. The only question is going to be if he's even worse.

It's not about coal. It's just being the opposite of Obama in every way he can find, and if the move angers liberals worldwide, and pleases Russia, well, that is nice lagniappe!

I would add: this horse is out of the barn, domestically and internationally. Business will take care of cleaning our energy supply in a way governments cannot, IMHO. The move hurts America but not so much the planet.

I'm a chemist. I am totally on board with republicans fighting the speculative parts of climate change, the impact and the science behind if we are able to stop it. There are definitely parts of the mantra and religion behind it that can be debated. The fact that it exists, and that we are one of the biggest contributors to it is not debatable. That is scientific fact. It angers me that sticking your fingers in your ear and going "na-na-na, not listening" is not only a practice that politicians use, but one the most powerful man in the country uses.

    Trump what a f-ing idiot.

The only other two countries that aren't supporting the deal are Nicaragua and Syria.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris_Agreement

Even North Korea is in on the deal.

This idiot and his idiot supporters are among the dumbest people on earth.

"This growing demand creates a dual challenge: providing energy to meet people’s needs while managing the risks of climate change. I believe, and my company believes, that climate risks warrant action and it’s going to take all of us – business, governments and consumers – to make meaningful progress. At ExxonMobil, we’re encouraged that the pledges made at last year’s Paris Accord create an effective framework for all countries to address rising emissions; in fact, our company forecasts carbon reductions consistent with the results of the Paris accord commitments."

Secretary of State Tillerson testified in his confirmation hearings that he supported staying in the agreement. Unfortunately, trump listens to Pruitt...

This is nothing but a huge middle finger to the left and of course the Trump cultists will eat it up (see post #14 for an example of this). Meanwhile, anyone with actual functioning brain cells realizes how damaging and embarrassing this is. This isolationist attitude that Trump and his merry band of idiots seem to adore is a one way ticket to ceding global power to other countries like China while slowly ushering ourselves into irrelevance.
