The quote is a hell of a lot more accurate and closer to the teachings of Christ than believing in garbage like rapture (which isn’t even in the Bible) and cherry picking obscure references in the Bible to validate hating particular groups of people such as homosexuals. What is known about Jesus (which is somewhat limited) is that he he found comfort and solidarity with the poor and marginalized groups of people. Something that that “so called” Christian fundamentalists often conveniently over look. Many of the views you have expressed on this message board have been anything but tolerant or empathetic. If you choose to be blind, fine but you aren’t a goldfish so stop acting like one.
lol, spoken like a true atheist liberal who does not anything about Jesus or the Bible for that matter. You think Jesus was some hippie who was only an anti-rich champion for the poor and ignore literally ALL of the teachings about who Jesus actually is and why he came in the first place. You miss the forest due to all of the trees being in the way. Also you are incredibly naive to believe that I or any true Christians hate homosexuals(or anyone for that matter) but the Bible does teach homosexuality is wrong and Jesus himself taught that marriage should be between a man and a woman. As for the Rapture you are correct the actual word "rapture" is not in the Bible but the event that is referred to as the Rapture is mentioned more than once as seen in the verses below which are only a few of the verses referring to the event.
Just FYI- the original translation that was then translated again in the King James Version uses the phrase “defile themselves” which is then interpreted as having gay sex in the newer translations. It’s wide misinterpretation that the Bible in its original texts orders its folllowers to do things like deny others the ability to have homosexual marriage. Especially since the Bible is VERY clear about judging others. The 10 Commandments have very clear themes. Love and worship God at least one day a week, have respect for and obey your parents, be honest, don’t cheat & steal. Don’t be greedy. Be humble. Christians (and many other religions) need to be put in check when they overstep their own principals.
Pretty sure the Ten Commandments never says to love and worship God "at least" one day a week. It's OK to love and worship God on Sunday and to completely ignore Him the other 6 days of the week, since I fulfilled my one day a week obligation? Missed that interpretation in CCD classes and high school Theology
That was meant as sarcasm (Christians who are holy as Christ himself cause they attend once a week and then live spiteful lives where they lie cheat and steal). It refers to honoring the Sabath of course.
I always find it interesting that lazy Christians will hide behind Christ's blood rather than to look at his dealings with the Pharrises as a parable against following the letter of the law at the expense of the spirit of his teachings. Probably another reason they killed him But no, it's about faith (just that and only that) and being imperfect to be cleansed by Christ. Last time I checked, you can try to be better without being a prideful upright douche about it.
#1 “Rapture” was created by a fundamentalist less than 200 years ago and became popular with fundamentalists after a movie. A majority of educated biblical scholars reject the concept. Yet you are willing to accept it as a central tenant of Christianity. #2 The gospels and Acts; as well as Timothy (off the top of my head) all make reference to the resurrection. However they are inconsistent on most of the facts around his death and resurrection... which is why it is foolish to cherry pick short passages of the Bible to justify hatred towards things such as homosexuality, masterbation or to justify slavery. All things embraced by those that are fundamentalists and used to twist Jesus to meet their values and not the other way around. It is lazy and dangerous and yet continues to happen. #3 The central themes and values of Jesus Christ are quite obvious. They are present in the gospels and books recognized as cannon law in the 4-5th century and again by the Council of Trent. They exist in most of the gospels excluded for political reasons. Rather than focus on those themes, most fundamentalists are more concerned with the exact wording of minor passages in the Bible, which were written in many cases by people that never met Jesus Christ. #4 We can do this all day. I have studied the topic from middle school through graduate studies, including Greek and Latin. I have extensively studied the historic time period of the Bible and traveled abroad to study Judaism. #5 Take your blinders off and get back to the basics. You won’t though, because your “faith” is nothing more than a crutch to justify your biggoted and limited view of the world.
I know, shocker. trump's admin hasn't provided a full analysis of the costs of building his foolish and ineffective vanity wall. GAO says Trump admin hasn't conducted full analysis of border wall costs http://thehill.com/latino/400564-gao-trump-admin-hasnt-conducted-full-analysis-of-border-wall-costs Government watchdog questions whether border wall is worth the cost https://www.cbsnews.com/news/government-watchdog-questions-whether-border-wall-is-worth-the-cost/
Knowing neither the congress nor Mexico will ever pay for his expensive, ineffective vanity wall, trump moving the goalpost... again.
