It would be problematic if close family members of a President were kidnapped by hostile organizations. Despite what a perverse principal/agent problem it creates, we really do want to have SS protection for family. While I don't think the beneficiaries of such protection should circumscribe what they do in their lives because of it, they should be mindful of the burden they place on the American people and try to be as considerate as possible.
