I saw video of this chopper going down. They must have hit something lightly at the higher layers, because this video showed like 10-15 seconds of chopper wobbling and falling, and it is horrific but they must have had like 30s of horror after they hit something(add the time before somebody found their phone and hit recording). I'm not too emotional but i would of have ****ing cried if my fiancee wasn't sitting next to me. What a tragedy
Why can't the helicopter just make a detour to avoid the terrains or the bad conditions? Also, do the pilots have an obligation to tell the passengers the risk of their ride based on weather conditions? I wonder if Kobe knew the risks
They are not angels But is this the proper thread to bring all of this? Most of us knows this, some think he's guilty and some dont. But the tging is you could have easily make a different thread and tell us all about what you belive kobe did , but you chose to hi jack the thread and post it here.
I think this was just a bad combination of weather , terrain and pilot decision. Kobe and other rich people use helicopter service all the time and the specific model has had a great safety record.
mig0s, I agree the NBA should retire #24 as a fitting tribute to Kobi. However, I've taken several helicopter rides & never had a problem. While on Kauai my wife & I took a 2 hour tour of the island in a helicopter. I think there were 4 of us on that one. That was the best one.

Altobelli parents and daughter died, leaving their other daughter and son as orphans. Then this Chester mom and her daughter dead, probably leaving a husband and other kids behind. This is just sad af, can't imagine what's going through their families' heads.
I can already see the headlines and memes. In short, in the age of #metoo this isn't happening. The tweet is a nice tribute from a player who respected his game, but hopefully this doesn't become one of those things the Internet takes seriously. Isn't it enough to just grieve, genuinely offer condolences and feel awful for his family? No need to honor his legacy with something that would just drum up controversy. I think retiring his number should be on the table, and could be a fitting tribute that's more passive and less in-your-face.
This may be both the saddest and the worst thread in the history of Clutchfans outside of the D&D. I really hate the spreading of false narratives and agendas. I'll just continue to pray for the families of the victims. I can't imagine the grief that they all must be dealing with right now. RIP to everyone on board.
No problem! If things are sketch, someone on top of their Ps and Qs will say something about rather if the operation can be conducted safely. Unfortunately, in Part 91 (privately/personal) operations, I've heard of stories and done case studies where owners/operations will push to go when conditions aren't favorable for their skillset. This where get there itis kills. I don't know what lead to this flight going in these conditions, I am not going to speculate what made this flight decide to go, but in my honest opinion with my Monday morning QB hat on. If I was operating the flight, I wouldn't have been operating if I couldn't conduct this flight on an IFR flight plan. They were limited on their options of detouring due to the fact that one of the airports had traffic departing.
