Porter was traded for two young players that the Wizards can test out and/or treat like an expiring. They valued clearing space way more than a late first rounder.

Tobias was traded for expiring and multiple first round picks including an unprotected Miami one.

Barnes was traded for an expiring and a young player in Jackson that has potential and may play better under Rick Carlisle.

I don’t think I would have wanted any of those players but they weren’t available to us. Even though none of those offers I just listed are anything special, we still couldn’t have matched any of them.

Its not just about offers - its about role. Porter is getting more shots and a chance to create with the Bulls. The Wizards used him largely as a spot up shooter. If he was with us, he'd be a spot up shooter and would not get the possessions and touches he's getting with the Bulls. That's not a knock on us, its just a function of where the Bulls are as a team as they are able to give time to players like him who they hope can help anchor a rebuild vs. us who are looking for guys to hit shots in big moments and complement Harden.

Sorry maybe I misunderstood your original point. I was just pointing out that it doesn’t seem any of those three guys we just discussed we’re available for us to get. I can’t think up of a single package that we could put together that would have made them take our offer over what they actually got.

Oh I agree, I just think even if we could have had a theoretical package that could have gotten them, they wouldnt have benefited us very much given how our team is structured. Morey seems to be willing to package a number of picks for players he thinks will help this team (see Butler), but I think with these third scorers mentioned, they really wouldnt fit as well as even someone like Gerald Green does right now. That's my guess at least.

Perfect example of an undervalued player via culture, role and system.

Otto Porter since joining the Bulls

PPG up from 12.6 to 18.5
    Rebounds same at 5.8
Assists up from 2 to 3.3
3pt% UP from 37 to 47.5!!! on 5.4 attempts per game.
    FG% up from 45.7 to 49.7
Minutes also up 29 to 34.

Just for fun, we should trade for him and Michael Porter Jr., then start looking for other Porter Jrs. to sign.

He has played better, just keep in mind he is doing it on the Bulls.

I agree with what you said in the past, identifying players that are being underutilized to improve the Rockets.

I don't mean to nitpick, but let's at least be fair: the guy is getting paid twenty six million dollars this year. I'm not sure undervalued is the right word? Under utilized? Not given a big enough role? But c'mon - the man is 'valued'!!

Yeah, it is only a small sample size for Otto with 11 games. But people always wondered in DC what Otto could become? Perhaps the Bulls can unlock it. Utilize him differently. Perhaps empower him more.

Just an example of how situations can make players better and to keep an open mind. There are GEMS out there waiting for the right environment to flourish. We have to hope Morey has an eye on a few.
