Failed prospects aren't really the same as there are so many of them (Brett Wallace, Jon Singleton, and now AJ Reed for very recent example).

    Jason Jennings
    Woody Williams
    Carlos Gomez

Those 3 really stand out as they were beyond awful for us.

Kaz Matsui's anus deserves honorable mention.

Go-Go broke my heart. Loved the athleticism in his game, loved his infectious energy and outsized personality. I thought he'd be a perfect addition to that '15 team.

After screwing himself into the dirt (and out of his helmet) on every swing and bat flipping on warning track pop-ups (while maintaining a sub .300 OBP) I just began to LOATHE him. Then he went to the Rangers and had a really productive rest of the season for a division winner who happen to be our rival and - at least for that season - our daddy.

I still have no problem with his histrionics... I've always loved Jose Lima and Jose Valverde and the younger guys like Javy Baez (and, TBH Carlos Correa) who play the game with their emotions (and joy!) in full view. But Gomez just really, truly sucked as a Houston Astro and it personally felt like a huge letdown.

Cameron Drew was the first to come to mind. Andujar Cedeno. Jon Singleton. Ward's a good one. Even when Listach won ROY, he wasn't very good.

    J. D. Martinez! Mostly joking but that SOB was a scrub on a 100 loss team but low and behold he had the skill set to be in MVP discussions.

I thought Sean Berry was decent enough. Was he supposed to be better ?

He credits Miguel Cabrera for helping fine tune his swing

Was going to say Joe Morgan for same reasons. Dynasty Champion too, while Houston struggled to ever win one.

    PLAYOFF Biggio and Bagwell

This explains why they are mostly disrespected and/or low-balled

Too me a lot of guys mentioned played up/or close to expectation. Sean Berry was decent.

    Taveras
Woody Williams & Preston Wilson (given their age)
Saarloos, Lyles, Schafer, etc (bad prospects from a poorly run front office..they did help however bring the Astros names like Correa, McCullers, Bregman, etc)

I’ll thrown Ensberg on that list. He had a monster season then fell off the earth.

I thought Wade Miller was going to end up better as well.

Can’t really call him overhyped though, even though he always hit for a really good avg in the minors he was never looked at as a potential star

In fact that’s what made it so shocking when he went to Detroit and became Babe Ruth

Jared Cosart for me, dude was supposed to be great, runs a no hitter well into his first start.... never amounted to much

I agree. I especially liked Willy T and hated when we traded him.

I remember Astros fans gave Jason Hirsch a standing ovation before his first pitch in his debut. So I'd throw his name into the hat.
