Well he has proven to be a NFL history making rookie QB. Plus he only played half a season. Let that sink in.
I think he is. BUT..... What have Texans done to make him better? Where is the leadership? Where is the vision? This franchise is more about PR spinning the temper tantrums and shortcomings of a mediocre football coach than they are about winning the Super Bowl. So the question you want to ask, what are the Texans doing to win the Super Bowl? BTW..... The Chiefs just scored AGAIN!
We disagree that he's gotten better. They're both middle of the pack. Far from the best, but far from the worst.
How can you hold Watson to a standard of " Far from the best" and celebrate DIVISION TITLES for Obrien & the Texans. Can't have it both ways. The guy is easily top 10, Can you say the about the way the Texans are run?
Going into year 7 would you say O'Brien is a better coach than he was in year 1? Before you answer, keep in mind, against the Chiefs, he admitted to not having a 4th down play ready in Chiefs'. Remember, after not going for it on 4th down in Chiefs territory, like a bad Madden player, he went for it on 4th down on his own 31.
Fans like Raining Threes, are willing to say fire O'Brien then immediately follow up with every excuse. However, when it comes to Watson, he gets blame for everything wrong with the Texans and there are no reasoning with them. The fact of the matter, they never wanted the Texans to draft Watson. They constantly criticize him and are always waiting to say I told you so. They constantly find things to support their negative view and totally disregard the positives or even the potential.
It sure does. In fact I wouldn't even say he was middle of the pack for the last 2 months of last season.
Watson was far from top 10 for the last 6 weeks of the season. The Texans org/BOB is far from the top 10 also.
Not as a game manager. Hopefully he will improve this with Kelly running the offense. BOB had far too much on his plate. (Not an excuse)
Somewhat true about not wanting to draft Watson, I wanted RS to give up the extra 3rd for Mahomes and said this at that time. Hopefully you're right and Watson becomes a great QB. After seeing the last 6 weeks of Watson's play I think it's fair to have doubts. BTW, I think BOB's isn't a bad HC but he's not a championship level HC.
Mahomes wouldn't have a MVP or a Super Bowl playing under the same circumstances as Watson has in Houston. Mahomes's situation is great. He's a stud QB talent, with a Competent Front office, a Hall of Fame HC, great assistants, HOF tight end, a top 10 WR & Etc. It's an organizational accomplishment to win a Super Bowl and Watson hasn't had that. No QB has EVER dragged an incompetent organization to a title.
Y’all are just gonna have to agree to disagree with raining threes on Deshaun. Trying to convince someone who’d rather have Ryan Tannehill than Deshaun is a moot cause.
The titans literal game plan was to let Henry solo take over the Ravens game and use Tannerhill as little as possible. Props to Vrabel, but that goes to show how meh Tannerhill is, but apparently that sort of qb turns raining three on.
Blaming Bill O'Brien is "making excuses" for Deshaun but some of those very same QBs he'd rather have...it's incredible what coaching/play-calling has done for them. Lamar Jackson - Started 7 games as a rookie, did OK but they hire Greg Roman in the offseason, WOW, he takes off & wins MVP (Though it's not been pretty for him in the playoffs) Tannehill - Average in Miami, goes to Tennessee with Vrabel, looks amazing (even if it was more Derrick Henry) Goff - some called him a bust after his rookie year with Jeff Fisher; they hire Sean McVay, WOW, he looks amazing! (Not so much last year even with McVay) Yeah, breaking news, Mahomes, Rodgers, Wilson, Brady, Brees, Ryan are good. Wentz is good but call it bad luck, call it whatever, too injury prone. (And some might say "But what about Watson? Isn't he injury prone?" Nope, disagree. But he does need to get down or out of bounds, not be macho man and take on/run over defenders) Jimmy G, nah rather have Watson. (Watson & Shanahan?!?!) Murray TBD.
For anyone thinking Watson not taking bigger steps since coming into the league, remember his coach started Tom Savage over him. A coach saw Watson and savage in practice and preseason games for several months and decided that Tom Savage was the better QB. This is the same coach that during his time have brought in Brian Hoyer, Ryan Mallet, Tom Savage, Brock Osweiler, and AJ McCarron while opposing the drafting of Watson. Suffice to say the Texans coach likes a certain type of QB and that type is not exactly DeShauan Watson. So is it really any surprise that Watson don’t seem to show improvements like Lamar or Maholmes?
You can only hide behind the excuse of bad coaching for so long. Watson is getting the keys to the offense this yr. It will be up to him to make the correct OL calls/Audibles etc... This is HIS offense going forward.
