This would be a huge victory for Assad, and none too soon: ISIS rebels (from Mosul?) have re-entered Palmyra.

Rebels are going to die but Syria is exhausted. The current Syrian military is a shadow of the force it was when the war started and it's a mystery whether or not Assad can hold territories he's retaken. ISIS is the big problem. They've managed to retake Palmyra. If this was a simple Syria vs ISIS war, it would've been over ages ago but everybody(?) is fighting two fronts. Supposedly (pretty likely), some of the rebels are also ISIS.

It's a serious question whether or not it will take boots on the ground from the Russians, probably, to keep the peace in Syria.

News reports that Syria is killing all women and children in the city. No one will be spared.

All hail Putin, comrades! Dei - you must celebrate this victory with a visit to mother Russia to suck on Putin's piper.

The rebels are being backed by the likes of Salafi Arabia and Qatar, and they tend to have near takfiri and literalist views on the interpretation of the Koran.

They are on the wrong side of history and will soon be confined to the waste bin of history. Assad is not exactly a winner in all of this, but watching Syria turn into Libya or worse IS NOT and option.

I think most of the rebels are Shias and therefore cannot be backed by Saudi and Qatar.

And I think watching Assad indiscriminately kill innocent civilians is not an option.

Well the office manager in my building will be happy. Hopefully the rebels will be defeated very soon. His family are Christians still in Damascus frantically supporting Assad as they rightfully fear ISIS and our "moderate" rebels..

ISIS in not a good guy, but one thing for sure is that the US/Saudi/.Emirate/Israeli (oh no keep it secret and don't be anti-semtic) war just needs to be over for the Syrian people. The war is much worse than our old ally Assad has been.

The CIA and the Saudis will still support "moderate democracy loving" rebels no doubt for awhile. Hopefully that will end soon.

It is horrible. It's also bad to see folks like Cohete Rojo supporting it.

Apples don't fall far from tree, supreme leader of Iran would be proud to hear this. In regard to Trump,he can't be worse than Obama when it comes to Syria

I think the incoming administration would prefer to think of him as "an outsider who gets it."

If you're a Christian in Syria, Assad has always the preferred option (even before ISIS). Assad is definitely a less than desirable figure but he comes from a minority group himself (the Alawites) and his hold on power has largely depended on a coalition of Alawites, Shi'ites and Christians (with outside support from Iran). Sunnis are the majority in Syria so if you were in one of those minority groups, you sure as hell don't want Assad to lose power. Everyone saw how Iraq has turned out (another state governed formerly by a coalition of minority groups).

Iraq was deliberately divded on sectarian bases, pre-invasion Iraq was't.
Middle East Christian in Lebanon alone fall under 5-7 leadership with different alliances and some of them are the harshest enemy to each other's or to Assad regime.
The Catholic Church is closer to Sunni
The Russian Orthodox Church aligned it self lately with Assad upon Putin's request.
Assad closest figure is Syrian Sunni grand cleric, religion it self forcibly inserted into the equation, was never a part of it in first place

The argument used here is that "our good Christian ISIS is better than bad ISIS, and let's see who kill more civilians" which in it self an insane logic

I'm not mad at all. If I have a bias against a nation with a brutal authoritarian leader that kills and imprisons political opponents and journalists who also tried to undermine our democratic process, then it's not a bad thing. It might be a bad thing that those things don't trouble you. When I brought up Russia's offenses you only listed Saudi Arabia, and China, and I agreed that those nations have offensive policies as well. You didn't make any related points in that thread and you don't seem to be making any here either.

I commented on your support for Assad who uses chemical weapons of mass destruction his own civilians and is killing women and children in his current effort. Your only response was this strange quip.
