Happening this Sunday, April 2019. The biggest national elections between now and the EU elections in May. Vox, the new inward-looking conservative party is expected to gain as much as 15% of the vote. It got less than 1% in the last election.
Spanish politics is always kind of crazy. The scandals amongst the PP have definitely hurt them. Also, the PSOE hasn't been as effective as I would like. Then there are the parties representing various regional interests amongst the Basques and Catalan. There will have to be some kind of coalition formed to gain control. Vox will most likely pick up some seats, but I'm not sure who would work them to give them a real voice in any kind of ruling coalition, but who knows? It makes me long for an opportunity to have more political parties vying for seats in the government than just two. Though Spain is a perfect example of both the good and bad of that kind of thing. It is certainly more democratic to have more than just two parties. Two parties are barely better than one. More parties would allow people to find parties that are more aligned with their beliefs. Yet, it also makes it difficult to form coalitions, parties don't have to appeal as wide of a base in order to share in the power. There is less scrutiny because there are too many parties scrutinize. That can lead to more corruption. The amount of people feeding into running each party is also smaller since there are so many parties which can also cause problems with the quality of candidates. Though, we don't always draw great candidates with only two parties. Vox, seems most upset about the fact that that the PSOE appointed 10 women to a cabinet of 16. Spain now as the most female cabinet in the world. Vox are also super hardliners against the Catan independence movement. Unlike most other European nations who have seen a rise in far-right parties, it had to do with immigration. With Vox in Spain, it is mostly a reaction to the drive for independence from the Catalan contingent and a reaction to the feminism by the head of the PSOE.
Looks like the PSOE (Spains solcalist party has won). The PP which is basically like Pre-Trump era Republicans came in second. 4th place were the ultra liberal party, Podemos. If the PSOE and Podemos are able to work out a deal they can control the majority of the seats. The Ultra-right, anti-feminism party, Vox came in last place. They did increase their percentage from the previous election.
Yep. It makes sense since their main concern is being against feminism and stopping the Independence for Catalan movement, and those two issues have been raised since the last election. The folks of Catalan have made a huge push for becoming an independent nation. The PSOE Prime Minister has appoint women to 10 of the 16 cabinet positions. So yes they party that stands against those things should expect an increase in support. They got it. And they still came in last place.
Those were the days! "Boy, the way Lola Flores sang. Songs that made the Hit Parade. Guys like us, we had it made. Those were the days Didn't need no welfare state. Everybody pulled his weight Gee, our old Aspid ran great. Those were the days And you knew where you were then Girls were girls and men were men. Mister, we could use a man like Francisco Franco again. People seemed to be content. Fifty dollars paid the rent. Freaks were in a circus tent. Those were the days Take a little Sunday spin, Go to watch Real Union win. Have yourself a dandy day That cost you under a fin. Hair was short and skirts were long. I don't know just what went wrong Those Were the Days" Let's bring back the good ole days........ everything is either hardcore right wing nationalism or extreme left wing socialism........ the outcome is the same... lots of dead people, a shitty economy and people yearning for the "ole days".
