Of course. Attacking a company because it defends a player for speaking out? Weak sauce. Conservatives need to realize in America, people are allowed to express themselves. If they don't like it, they should go to Russia to suck their dada's Putin tit.

 

This woman is an ex-Congresswoman (guess what party). She is a Temp Pres. She won't be there very long. USA Gymnastics is not going to piss off their BEST Athlete and Biggest Name.

 

Protesting is not controversial, it's a cornerstone of liberal democracies around the world. Jesus.

 

Representatives of US bodies, especially of US Sports bodies should never take sides on issues especially as those as divisive as race. USA Gymnastics should not be part of the Trump/Putin propaganda arm. This isn't the Soviet Union. So no, the rights to speak out should end when you represent the entire country in an official role where you are suppose to bring both liberals and conservatives together, not rip them apart

The president of USA gymnastics should not be taking sides in a political debate about race, she should be focused on repairing damage from Nassar.

Mary Bono was never an elected Congresswoman;

she was the widow of Congressman Sonny Bono, who was more well-known as the creator of and 1/2 of the Rock n Roll iconic duo Sonny & Cher;
after Sonny died in an skiing accident, Calif's last GOP Gov appointed his widow to serve out the remainder of the congressional term

 

So, as I understand it, in September private citizen Mary Bono used her own personal twitter handle to knock Nike. Later, in October, she was named interim president of USA Gymnastics. Then Simone Biles, sponsored by Nike, criticizes her for her views. Then Ms. Bono apologized for expressing her views. I'm pro-Kap, generally, but cannot agree there is anything problematic here. Ms. Bono was not representing USA Gymnastics in any way when she said what she said -- she didn't use their twitter handle, wasn't even employed by them. Maybe you can complain about how USA Gymnastics chose an interim president with anti-Nike views. Then your beef is with their board, not Ms. Bono. Even then, I don't think it has much merit. She might boycott Nike as a private citizen, but if Nike had the best pitch to sponsor USA Gymnastics would Ms. Bono really say no? No particular reason to expect she'd be unprofessional about it. Of course, now that Biles publicly called her out, the chance of a Nike sponsorship dims. And, of course, Ms. Bono probably erred with indiscretion by publicly stating her personal views if she was looking for a leadership role. Just like everybody here would come to regret their D&D comments if they decided to run for president.

(As an aside, if Ms. Bono had scrubbed her twitter feed a week ago before anyone knew to cache her comments, would it have avoided detection? Should it be standard operating procedure for companies to sanitize past commentary when they agree to hire someone for a very public role?)

 

Biles has POWER. "BIG BALLS". You don't **** with Simone. Right now, she IS USA Gymnastics. She threw around her POWER and made Bono Disappear.

I agree with everything you said except the pro-Kap part. Had she scrubbed her social media history just as Dr. Ford did prior to accusing Kavanaugh, this would be a none issue. It can be dangerous to express a politcal opinion on the internet. I wonder how things will be in a few decades when people have several years of internet history? Many young people will change the opinions as they mature so they could easily have a lot of stuff posted on social media on both sides of any given controversial subject that could be used against them.

 

Hmm... trying to compare former conservative congresswoman bono's expressing her political beliefs on social media last September with past social media postings by Dr. Ford is a real stretch. The former congresswoman should have known that her social media comments were public record. And this was less than a year ago that she posted these... she was 55, hardly an instance of "many young people changing opinions."
