    to your point, this is our roster right now:

    Gasol and Ibaka can also shoot from 3 and space.....

    We need big wings/forwards. There's no way we will be able to have both Capela and Looney.

    You "give up" one of the three best players on the planet. While they don't necessarily need Russell, they couldn't get anyone close to that if they simply let Durant walk (i.e. They can't just sign someone off the streets for the same amount they had allotted for Durant). So it benefits them in the short term to turn Durant into Russell. And it helps the Nets, too. This isn't really sneaky, it's just a mutually beneficial deal that was available to the teams once Durant decided to go to the Nets. No different than what we did with CP3.
