    Against .500 and above they're 13-5
    Against .500 and below they're 7-10

    Some comparisons...

    GSW:
    vs >.500 9-10
    vs <.500 15-3

    OKC:
    vs >.500 5-8
    vs <.500 17-5

    Bucks:
    vs >.500 11-6
    vs <.500 14-4

    Raptors:
    vs >.500 10-7
    vs <.500 17-4

    76ers:
    vs >.500 4-9
    vs <.500 19-5

Other teams have been much better at beating up on bad teams, but the Rockets are dominant against the toughest competition.

Thanks for posting that. I felt like we had a pretty good record against all the playoff contenders despite our slow start.

No team wants to face the Rockets in the playoffs. Not even GS.

That's great! So, why this then: Against .500 and below they're 7-10

if you can beat the good teams, why struggle so much against the bad ones???

The only answer I can come up with is mental--they think they can easily beat the bad teams, so they don't try hard enough, and they lose.

Rockets would have the best record in the West by a comfortable margin if they just gave decent effort the first month of the season. Damn shame. At least they're looking better now.

Yep. And I think effort was a big part of it.

Rockets were one thing last year they haven't been in a while: consistent. They lost that, at least in the first part of the year.

As comparison, I think I recall that the Showtime Lakers had a string of something like 3 years straight where they NEVER lost to a sub .500 team. I imagine Jordan's Bulls were very similar. If you beat the bad teams, and go .500 against the good ones, you're .750, which works out to about 62 wins a year. That's what the goal should be. Certainly if you can consistently beat the good teams, you should only very rarely lose to the bad teams.

Those losses to the Cavs, Wizards, and Wolves look really dumb now. I don't fault anyone for not wanting to watch this team play after that first month, it was downright unwatchable.

That's good, but our poor record against bad teams indicate a lack of consistent focus and discipline.

7-10 against teams below .500 is regrettable, though most of those losses of course are when we were in a funk and still trying to figure things out. I have a feeling we'll be much better at taking care of business against bad teams in 2019.

True, but at the same time it's encouraging to know that this team still has a very high ceiling. Offense is king in this era, and the Rockets have the #2 ranked offense in the whole league.
