I think we could probably get Minny's #7 but it would not only require assets from us but also for us to do the unthinkable and accept their deadweight contract.

Gordon, Ariza and HOU 2018 (or Dekker if they prefer)
    for
    Rubio, Jordan Hill and #7

Then you do Rubio and #7 for Paul George. Pacers will not get a better asset than #7 for George - not from the Lakers, Cavs or Celtics. The hidden bonus here is making a trade for Rubio and re-routing him before he ever puts on a Rockets jersey. Morey would be inducted into the Clutchfans Hall of Fame immediately. On that note, we need a Clutchfans Hall of Fame.

True, but if you trade for PG, you get his bird rights and can offer FIVE years instead of Four. Higher raises and no state income tax. So their are financial benefits there, even if the super max is off the table.

Paul George trade before Thursday's draft no longer imminent

INDIANAPOLIS — An Indiana Pacers’ trade involving Paul George being completed before Thursday’s NBA draft doesn’t appear imminent. The Pacers, according to multiple league sources, are considering multiple trade offers for George, but the team doesn’t feel pressure to get a deal done by Thursday.

New team president Kevin Pritchard has engaged in trade talks with teams such as the Houston Rockets, the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Los Angeles Lakers. The Washington Wizards and the Los Angeles Clippers have also been interested in acquiring George, according to several media reports.

Those team’s offers, however, have not intrigued the Pacers enough to progress forward to complete such a trade.

With the draft approaching, the Pacers, according to sources, are optimistic that other teams' offers for George will become more enticing Thursday afternoon before the draft that night. Pritchard wants to receive the most compensation possible in exchange for George, but the All-Star’s value throughout the league, especially with his known desire to join the Lakers, is limited since he’s likely to only spend one season with his new team.

Those factors, according to a source, could lead the Pacers into taking offers throughout the summer, and potentially into training camp, to complete a deal. If a trade is agreed upon, George plans to play out his contract and become free agent next summer.

One source said George’s trade value would continue to drop in the league if a deal is not in place and finished after the draft. Such a situation would potentially put the Pacers in one of the most tenuous positions in the league entering next season.

The Lakers then, according to ESPN.com, offered the Pacers a trade package Tuesday afternoon of the 27th pick, the 28th pick and a young player on their roster, either forward Julius Randle or guard Jordan Clarkson. The Pacers, according to a source, would need the Lakers’ offer to significantly improve to complete a deal that would send George to Los Angeles for next season.

If no trade is made this summer, George, according to a source, would still be comfortable playing out the final year of his contract next season for the Pacers.

Here's an update from the Indiana side. Seems interesting that the Rockets are the first team mentioned:

Houston is probably the most active participant after the Lakers now that Griffin has been let go.

Just depends on what they think of the "young players" Indy offered. Those draft picks are pretty low. Do the Pacers like Sam Dekker? Do they like Pat Beverly? Do they like Eric Gordon? Do we have a move to get them a higher draft pick?

If we can deal Bev for a mid teens pick, do they like that plus Eric Gordon and say Montrez Harell better? You can't look at these deals any evaluate without knowing what the other GM sees.

Meh, 27 + 28 + Randle or Clarkson is not that good really. They would've to trade Randle WITH Clarkson to make it at least serious, and that depends on other factors like, personally, i don't think Clarkson has much value, is a bench guy who can score some but with no upside, Randle has some potential but it seems like he's not very smart, plays too much for himself...i wouldn't be shocked at all if Indiana would like Dekker and Trez over those two guys.

Good question, he's from Indiana, still 28 so not old, has a good contract and they would lack a scorer if George is gone so...maybe they do.

But on the other hand some rumors said that they have no interest in Love cause he's too old to fit with their plan, which is to build around Turner, so...who knows lol

Podcast is from late last night released this afternoon

    Woj:
The Pacers have not shown much enthusiasm for the Lakers young guys. We'll find out in the next 24-48 hours...I hope we find out after the podcast releases in the morning that we do have a shelf life with this. We'll see what they come up with for Paul George. I think they think they can get better. The market is interesting. There is a lot of action with him, a lot of teams trying to get involved. Kevin Pritchard has done a pretty good job working to manufacture a market for him. Sunday, teams were saying they'll get a mid-to-late first & maybe okay expiring contract. They'll get more than that. There are a few teams that think maybe we can flip him over the course of the year. If he gets traded to a good team & thinks they can win...I'm not sure anyone thinks they can win a championship because of Golden State but if a teams can achieve in the bigger markets, even mid-size markets, they're willing to take a flyer on Paul George. They were not enamored with the Lakers picks. The Pacers aren't dying to help the Lakers here. They're not trying to do right by Paul George & give him what he wants. They'll take what they think is the best deal out there for them & move him. If that turned out to be the Lakers, they would do it. Lakers are walking the line that we don't want to give up too much because we know we can get him in free agency but we need to get involved now because you never know what can happen. If he gets traded somewhere & likes it, that probably takes them out of the running for LeBron too. The reason he'll consider them is he'll have George coming with him. They're in position to have two max slots next summer. Two is not enough in this league. They'll need a third the year after or whatever.

This could be another "up his sleeve" thing Morey is trying to culminate to get another superstar in Houston.

If 8 teams are involved that definitely means some of those teams don't/won't have cap space to take on Pat straight up. So what could be happening is that he's trying to get a mid round pick to throw at Indy plus say Eric Gordon and Dekker/Harrell (their choice) to make a deal work.

I'm hoping this is the case because to trade him for peanuts just at the chance at nabbing one of Hayward, Griffin, or Chris Paul is pretty stupid. There's no guarantee and you just lost a valuable asset for nada.

Pretty sure Morey is smarter than that so I'll just speculate on my first theory!

Morey is just kindly showing the Pacers new management how to actually create a bidding war before he comes in and swipes PG from them:)

Lol, they need to trade him ASAP. The longer they hold out, the worse offers will get. George's value will plummet at the start of next season. Teams always do this lol.

The Rockets also could seek a pick in the draft in that kind of trade, adding urgency to those sorts of talks well ahead of free agency. A strong enough pick could even help if the Rockets are to strengthen a trade offer for the Pacers' Paul George.

    Dan Dakich on Paul George:

I think he's a fraud. Everybody outside of Indianapolis thinks he's some great player. He's a guy...nice kid by the way. But in terms of basketball, remember when he said "I talked to C.J. Miles about that last shot."? Let me tell what happened with that. One of two things: either he didn't talk to C.J. Miles or I heard C.J. & the rest of the guys just laughed at him when he tried to. This isn't like Kobe talking to his teammates. 0-16 on game winning shots. Paul George started on a path to become a great because he defended, because he was big time in pretty good games. He competed. Then, the last two years, he's become a guy who's tried to talk his way into super-stardom. It's like there's a book that says this is how you act as the best player on a NBA team. Kobe's way of acting was get up at 4AM, go work out, be a crazy fanatical workaholic & hold teammates accountable & everyone respected him. George's way is to talk. George's way is to say after the fact really dumb things consistently throughout the year. "We just didn't play hard." What NBA superstar needs Lance Stephenson on their team? Like George is like "Aww he energized us, we really needed him, we were a dead team, blahblahblah." You're the superstar! You need Lance Stephenson? Paul George is a talker, not a do-er. Nice player that people around the country like a heck of a lot more than people who watch him every day.

    Marc Stein:

    George's future in Indiana?

No question Indiana has been sending signals here over the last several hours that "No, we're not close to trading George & don't be surprised if we don't move him." It's best if they move him. They're gonna be talking about it every minute today leading up to the draft. The Lakers are still trying to find a way to give them what they want. 27-28-Randle-Clarkson, it's not enough. Not enough to make the Pacers feel good about this. It's still early. It's become a mess & headache for Indiana. If someone can give them the high draft pick they want, I still think they do it. The longer they keep him, the worse this gets. They know it.

    Jimmy Butler?

(Cavs players warning Butler to stay away) I don't buy that at all. Cavs would still trade for Butler if they could. Cavs problem is trading Kevin Love is their only option. Cleveland needs two-way players vs. Golden State. They don't have enough & that's why George or Butler makes so much sense. Question is, if you trade Love, can you get a top pick & top young player? A team like Minnesota could put more on the table on their own than Cleveland can trying to put together some three-team deal. Butler has made it clear to the Bulls he wants to stay & lead them back to prominence. The Bulls will listen all day long. Minnesota, Phoenix, can one of these teams put together a deal sweet enough for Chicago? I would not rule it out.

Any legs to George for Love?

Direct swap? No. Kevin Love to Indiana doesn't solve the Pacers problems. If they're trading George today, there has to be a sweet pick involved or they'll just take it into the summer.

    Carmelo Anthony?

If the Knicks want to do something with him, I can't imagine they'd just buy him out. Phil & Carmelo are both dug in. Finding a workable trade has been impossible. Would they buy him out? That's a huge win for Carmelo if he can convince the Knicks to do that. He wants to stay. He doesn't want to go. He wants to finish his career in New York. I don't see a trade for Carmelo. He can veto any deal. Would the Knicks buy him out? We are not close to a Carmelo Anthony trade.

    Rockets?

Houston is always super aggressive. They plan to be as aggressive as ever. Lowry, Millsap, Paul & Griffin - all are free agents the Rockets intend to get in the fray for. They'd have to make trades & clear salary cap space just to get one of them. Ryan Anderson, Lou Williams, Patrick Beverley - another two-way player the Cavs have shown interest in the past & a very reasonable contract teams would love to have. You have to keep your eye on Patrick Beverley. We could see him get traded tonight. Houston is looking to move all those guys. Morey had interesting comments after the Finals. We're not intimidated by Golden State. We're gonna be even more aggressive. We all want to hear that - teams that want to try & keep up with Golden State & Houston is always that kind of team.
