Good God, you just put my youth in one simple list. I remember my aunts talking about the Texas Jam in 1983. I believe Styx went on stage after Sammy Hagar. Styx was doing their tin-pan-alley Broadway-ish concept "Kilroy was Here" tour, and they got roundly booed (I feel bad for Tommy Shaw, I'm certain he pushed back on Dennis deYoung's idea of the concept show). You don't bring out Kilroy was Here after Sammy Hagar. I saw Hagar in Cedar Rapids, 1984 or 1985, the year before Van Halen hired him. The dude freaking killed it. If God said, "I'll let you go back in time but only for a few hours to watch any concert of your choice' (because he is, after all, a benevolent and loving God), I'd go see the Allman Brothers. Those shows must have been awesome to behold.
Country shows suck in the big venues. Too bad there are not many small venues in the Houston area with a decent dance floor that do live country music. Big Texas but it seems to be all Texas Country. Mo's bring in some pretty good talent, but every one stands on the dance floor. Damn, now I'm missing and reminiscing of The Hall of Fame. That was a great place.
I was at the 1984 Texxas Jam in the Astrodome with Rush, Ozzy, Bryan Adams, 38 Special and prob some others that I forget. Sound in the Dome is so bad for concerts. You see the band on the giant screen singing and the sound doesn't catch up to you for a couple of seconds. Also at the dome in 1989 was the Who/ Stevie Ray Vaughn show. SRV played an afternoon set outside the dome as well, and I remember how incredibly hot it was on the blacktop with no shade.
I was there. I went for Rush. I can’t remember much of that show except they looked like ants, 38 Special stood out because they were so fat, the sound was bad, someone was passing around cocaine in a snortable vial in my section (did not partake), and I got there late (I think I missed Ozzy as no recollection of seeing him). Barely remember Rush playing. I was so far away. I also saw Pink Floyd Lapse of Reason tour at the Dome. I was in BFE at that show as well and the sound yet again reverberated off the walls and sucked.
Just so I'm square on this @jo mama : "old school country" = Toby Keith, et al Kid Rock and Florida Georgia Line and Big and Rich and nashville pop = country Willie and Waylon = drug addicts (unlike every single other country star since the 1920's) Exactly. I think Alabama was the only one to ever pull it off.

I was there at the Unicorn. I believe Monster Magnet may have also been on the bill although I don’t think I saw them.
Which was the one that was basically concrete floor and walls and had band names painted on the walls? My memory is not as good as yalls.
Agree that there were some great bands playing in that concert. The one I wanted to go to, but couldn't afford at the time was the one with Boz Scaggs, Tower of Power, Jeff Beck, and Journey and Nils Lofgren (note the billing!). that was the vatican, but i think it changed names after a couple years. saw lots of great shows there in the early 90's.
