Question for whomever may have done this before. I just received an amazing offer to take a job out of state, but am planning on keeping my house in Houston. With me keeping my residence in Texas, will I be exempt from the state's income tax for which I will be working (Ohio)? This will be my first project in my 12 year career that I have not worked on that was on the Gulf Coast in Tx.

You will not be exempt from paying Ohio state taxes. They have a "first day" rule.

Your employer should automatically withhold money for your Ohio taxes though.

When I moved to New Orleans for 6 months, I still had to pay LA taxes so I doubt you will be exempt.

You pay where you earn the money. Pro athletes have to pay state income tax in the states when they play away games.
