You won't see me agree with a post from the Ensign very often, but I agree with this one. Turkish media has largely been neutered by Erdogan. Reporters and editors jailed without evidence. Incidents of violence against them. This was going on before the revolt against Erdogan's government that failed. Now it is far worse. Erdogan feels like he can do anything, get away with anything. I hope Turkey rids itself of the man someday. It isn't going to be easy.

The Saudi crown prince may very well have had this poor fellow murdered, but I still wouldn't trust Turkish news sources. Not the sources the government lets operate. Those who would like to print the truth are subject to Erdogan exerting intimidation and fear, with little sympathy and often long prison terms from a judiciary Erdogan is getting within his grasp. In my humble opinion.

Sadly, it seems that he was murdered. Seems plausible to think they know because they bugged the consulate.

Nobody "trusts" Turkey. That goes without saying. What you SHOULD trust is the discombobulated reaction from the Saudi government that absolutely screams "we've been caught, are in utter shock and have no clue what to say".

There are also reports U.S. intel has intercepts of the Saudi plan to lure the journalist home to SA, with the consulate as the backup plan.

You can also trust that in his short time in control, MBS has a track record of diplomatic tone-deafness that is mind-blowing. This murder isn't even the most surprising thing he's done.

We can only wonder how much of this boldness was caused by the full-throated "French kiss" Trump gave him very early in his administration.

Why don't you explain it to me. Make good use of your time instead of wasting it.

Think about it. I'm not normally reserved about explaining things.

Suffice to say based on your posts, there's a lot you don't understand about the ME.

    People / Entities w principle

JP Morgan & Chase Co Chief Executive Jamie Dimon and Ford Motor Co Chairman Bill Ford canceled plans to attend a Saudi investor conference. Major news organizations such as CNN, the Financial Times, the New York Times, CNBC and Bloomberg have pulled out of the conference.

    the sell-outs

    Trump said that
the Saudi king to him that the Saudis didn't do it, and Washington would
be "punishing" itself if it halted military sales to Riyadh. even tho
stopping military sales to Saudi is much easier---a lot less punishing---than starting a trade war w China

The Fox Business Network will be the lone Western news outlet still heading to the conference

Maybe he and OJ can team up to find the real killers.

I know it's been said before and this is not really advancing the ball, but what a ****ing embarrassment of a human being.

We used to have a real foreign policy - even when I didn't agree with it. It at least had some sort of underlying logic to give it some plausible means of arguing that it wasn't entirely in bad faith (literally all of the disastrous Bush mideast misadventures, e.g).

This, now - we don't have anything, we have a corrupt clown who gets clowned by despots making random phone calls. And that's your USA foreign policy.

The levels that the most powerful nation in the world will go to, all to protect the Saudi royal family is nothing short of baffling.

It doesn't seem to matter the administration either...... the USA kisses their ass and makes excuses.

At least Obama was willing to draw a line against Israel.... but the US foreign policy in the Middle East is horrendous and so far no one has been able to make any real progress.

    Nothing substantive will happen.

The USA will still do business and support the Saudi royal family.

Trump already has been giving them cover.

Elect people that will do business with monsters or things like this....... and bombs killing children in Yemen happen.

Trump is in power and deserves pressure on him, but this policy has been US policy across multiple administrations.
