And? Is that Bret's fault he has a skill that allows him to work for the NYTimes? He has competition from other means. Low income immigrants come from third world poverty. What are the natives' excuse for not taking advantage of the various means of improving ones skills?
So we should be Japan, huh? Nah...I'm still kinda interested in how all this Great Experiment thing works out.
Labor doesn't mirror the supply variables of a widget in a textbook. For one thing, adding labor to an economy also adds demand for goods and services. Economies generally get richer as they get larger, in part because they are better equipped to realize economies of scale and productivity increases. The unskilled American's wages will rise with increased unskilled immigrant labor because the unskilled immigrant's English skills are typically poor to nonexistent. This allows the American worker to filter to the sorts of jobs where their language skills are rewarded with marginally higher pay. Remember, all of these new, immigrant workers are also creating job opportunities all across the economy. The wage stagnation that a huge percentage of American workers all throughout the economy has experienced over the last 40 or 50 years is in my opinion one of the most crucial issues of the day. But from an economic perspective, limiting or eliminating the influx of low-skilled labor (documented or otherwise) is not a solution.
No, plenty of mostly white countries do just fine and this country has done just fine historically as one. Doesn't really change what I said. By the way, if you are really an 'asianballa' I hope you realize you aren't included in the "white" culture.
Mass deportation of many of the Trump supporters would indeed save this country -- at least if you wish it to remain a democracy.
