    Total solar eclipse of April 8, 2024 over Mexico, the United States, and Canada

    The next total solar eclipse in the Americas comes on April 8, 2024. Totality first touches Mexico, enters the United States at Texas, cuts a diagonal to Maine, and visits the maritime provinces of Canada.

    Although it has been a long 38 years since the last U.S. total solar eclipse before 2017, it is a relatively short 7 years to the succeeding total solar eclipse in North America. Perhaps we should call this the Great North American Eclipse.

    Was in southern England for one in 1999... was not life-changing, and very anti-climactic (and I fully understood how "rare" of an event it is for it to happen over a well-traveled/populated area).

    I was there too off the coast of Cornwall in my Grandpa's boat. I was pretty young, but I do remember seeing camera flashes all across the coast. That was cool.

    Yeah, but it was cloudy so nobody could actually see it.... just that it got very dark at 11am (which I guess is somewhat cool).

    Was definitely not worth the years of buildup for.

    nice i always hear about this stuff happening in parts of the other world where i can't go b.c don't got money for plane tickets. i can make the drive to austin in 9 years and see this if im still alive then.

    I will be somewhat close as I am scheduled to be visiting Beaumont around that time (as my friend gets out of federal prison). What will be visible on that date from that location?

    I was there too, but only got to see it at 97% because the news said you'd be insane to drive to Cornwall, that there'd be traffic jams for miles, basically post-apocalyptic stuff...then no one got on the roads and it was supposedly a straight shot.
