Currently, there seems to be a 50/50 shot between either Bernie Sanders winning the election outright, or a brokered convention. This thread isn't just for my poll question, but all thoughts on the matter. I honestly have many questions.

Should the candidate with the delegate lead going into the convention be the nominee?

If your answer to that question is no, what if the margins are very wide? What margin would you say is necessary?

What are your thoughts on what would happen to the party if the leading candidate (highly likely Bernie), was not given the nomination despite having a delegate lead going into the convention?

Is it undemocratic to not give the nomination to the candidate with the most votes/delegates going into the convention? Should we demand the Dem party abandon superdelegates entirely?

Do you think it would still be possible to beat Trump if the nomination was switched to a candidate who was not leading going into the convention?

All I know is whoever has the most votes/delegates (likely the same person) needs to get the nomination and the support of everyone involved in the Democratic Party. I think that likely happens, but anything otherwise would be a disaster.

Nothing destroys the credibility of an establishment than going against the wishes of its constituents.

Someone mentioned the country is moving right .... The reality is the party of progressives are acting more like dictators, ironically, which they accuse the sitting president of being and giving people little choice on who to vote.

Let's see if a potential Bernie Sanders presidency uses the justice department to defend his own illegal actions and abuses of power as president.

Merely advocating for economic reform is not dictatorship like no matter how much you disagree with it.

Im not referring to any Democrat candidate. Im referring to the party. Yes, I understand the DNC is a private organization. But people shouldn't be surprised when there is backlash because the private party is being poorly ran.

The Democrats are in a lose-lose situation. The party is roughly divided in half and neither side are willing to support each other.

February is not even over and they are already headed to ****ing up 2020 worse than 2016.

If there is a brokered convention I bet they pick someone other than Bernie to be the nominee even though he likely goes in with the most delegates. Bernie is their nightmare scenario which is why I am voting for Bernie in the Texas primary come Super Tuesday.

I'm gonna refrain from voting in the poll .... I'm just too torn on this , under any normal circumstances I'd say the person with the most delegates should get the nom but these aren't normal circumstances. Bernie isn't really a Dem. He's an independent / Socialist who has hijacked the party .... and because there are so many moderates (well , kinda almost moderates) that are splitting the vote , Bernie's gaining momentum.

I think he's the worst case scenario - the only candidate I wouldn't vote for over Trump that's left (Kamala was the other).
He's not a bad guy but his views and policies are so damn extreme.

I don't think it matters if who the nom is - Bernie's supporters wont support another candidate and many wont support Bernie that support someone else.

This is the nightmare scenario .... if he has the delegates , he should be the nom - but I want anyone but Bernie.

Sure wish two of the moderates would drop out so we can see if those votes come together with one candidate. There cant be that many morons that think that the gubmint spending 70%+ GDP is a grand idea.

Lets hold off in the Bernie will probably have the most delegates till at least 10 primaries

That being said it does look like no one will have over 50%

I would imagine that regardless of what happens, trump will be blamed for it.

And it would be true. If Trump loses, it would be mostly because of himself and nothing else, I am in on the not Trump camp. If GOP actually had a decent president, I most likely will not vote for Sanders who I consider to be too extreme on the left.

And the rise of Sanders have a lot to do with the rise of Trump. He made many Democrats more extreme. If we do get president Sanders, I expect GOP to get even more extreme, on goes the cycle. Thanks Newt for starting this.

I doubt it...the DNC's ineptitude has absolutely nothing to do with him. Of course Republicans that vote for someone that they don't wish to see in office is another matter and shows the lack of morals within the party.

This is going to be the most fascinating story of the entire election cycle, overshadowing even the general.

If Bernie has a plurality but not a majority and isn't given the nomination it will fracture the left for a generation, or at the very least another election cycle or two. Republicans will coast to victory at the state and federal level as most of the disaffected left stay home.

Right now, If I'm an old-guard Democratic party person, I have to stop thinking about a neo-liberal "winning" the primary (or even getting a plurality) and start thinking about simply stopping Sanders from getting a majority.

The party insiders and loyalists see the existential threat of a Sanders-led DNC coming and they will start pulling out the knives on folks like Klobuchar and Buttigieg. The problem is they may be waiting too long.

This is essentially the 2016 Republican primary all over again. The oatmeal lane is crowded and suffering from crabs-in-a-bucket syndrome, while the change agent is having a grand old time hoovering up delegates.

Personally I am forecasting that establishment power will win out. Sanders gets that plurality but is denied the nomination. The Democrats lose the general as waves of people stay home. Democrats of course learn nothing from this and blame Sanders, Russia, and anyone else but themselves. We continue circling the drain waiting for Superman to save us.

Bernie would be smart to pick Warren as a VP candidate, or Amy, or Pete.....to consolidate.

The "blue no matter who" crowd is decidedly more in the neo-liberal, establishment lane, so if Bernie wins we are going to see if they will stand by their word.
