I disagree with this point. I think there is still value in stopping the further production/purchase of these weapons. In a vacuum, you are cutting off the available supply to what has already been produced. Now obviously we don't live in a vacuum and there will be ways to acquire the guns in the black market, same for anything banned.

Ideally (for those in favor), yes -- ban assault rifles and confiscate them to get them off the street. The reality is that you can't retroactively make something illegal. So Hillbilly Bobby would not be breaking the law after the ban by continuing to own the AR-15s he spent his years paychecks on. Likewise, you wouldn't be able to go door-to-door and collect the now-banned guns. That's not to mention the PR nightmare that image evokes -- gun nuts think you're prying the guns from their dead hands if you just talk about getting rid of bump stocks, for example.

The only way I see to compromise on this, assuming a ban can be passed, is to offer tax credits to assault rifle owners for turning in their weapons. They are under no obligation, but there is at least some incentive to do so.

It's funny to see this conversation about the efficacy of barriers next to the other thread about Israel's wall and the efficacy of a proposed US border wall.

Pedestrian barricades are pretty standard these days in many modern cities. You don't see those circular metal tubes that dot across entrances to pedestrian areas? They can even rise up or go down.

In terms of getting people help. The question is - which people? In the US - people with mental health issues are seen as a joke and most people hide their issues.

Yeah it's funny to see the use of condoms as a barrier but then see that against using a Wall as a barrier amirite?

WTF - how does a barrier to keep car traffic from pedestrian walkways have anything to do with a wall against human migration?

    Maybe

    And maybe remotely controlling them...

It’s coming and good news is they will be heavily regulated so it’s extremly more likely that it can save us.

    Can we talk about this:

" Facebook confirmed the authenticity of a post in his name, in which he pledged allegiance to something called the “Incel Rebellion.” This is not an organized militant group but rather an ideal developed by the so-called “incel” movement — an online community of men united by their inability to convince women to have sex with them. (“Incel” stands for “involuntarily celibate.”)

Some self-identified incels, as they call themselves, have developed an elaborate sociopolitical explanation for their sexual failures, one that centers on the idea that women are shallow, vicious, and only attracted to hyper-muscular men. They see this as a profound injustice against men like them, who suffer an inherent genetic disadvantage through no fault of their own. A small radical fringe believes that violence, especially against women, is an appropriate response — that an “Incel Rebellion” or “Beta [Male] Uprising” will eventually overturn the sexual status quo."

    What the entire f*ck?
A bunch of dudes that cannot get women .. . . so they decide to be violent against them
    they feel they DESERVE women

They feel there are ENTITLED to women . . . seemingly without any work on their part
Women just suppose to flock to them . . .. . . and it is unfair that guys who actually put in work
to either look good, have some game or earn big money get women . . . while their lazy, sorry sh!tty asses can't

How is this a real thing
WTF is wrong with these dudes???? Who raised them to feel so entitled?

It's weird and depressing, but apart from guys who think they should go murder women, I don't want to bring any moral condemnation. It's got to be a hard and lonely life to not be able to find a woman. It might be self-inflicted but most of people's problems are.

Incel, though, looks like just one face of a bigger misogyny movement. There is this idea they talk about in the Vox article of going back to 'the way things used to be' where women's role in society is just to be good wives to their husbands. Alt right has this idea, and Muslim extremism as well. A lot of modern radicalization, except maybe Antifa, seems to be reactionary to the women's liberation movement.

Btw, has anything good ever come from reddit and 4chan? It seems like all society's misanthropy is incubated in some subreddit before horrifically make front-page news.
