I'm really not a fan of Nike releasing new jerseys every year. It's a money grab and the lackluster Miami uniforms show that there's only so much they can do design-wise.
I like last hear edition of Miami and this years. What makes the jerseys ugly are the sponsor logos. They need to get rid of that. I noticed in those pictures they werent there. Here's to hoping they wont be even though I'm sure they will have them.
Nike switching designs every year is plain terrible. It takes a few years and to be worn enough times for a design to become recognizable. This constant revamp is a straight cash grab, but it also causes fatigue among the fanbase having to buy a new jersey every season. There will be a point of diminishing returns when someday excellent designs will not sell well because the limited number of people that buy novelty jerseys will have exhausted their resources trying to keep up.
Why is this on Nike? Yall think Nike is designing these, putting a gun to the team's heads, then printing and selling them?
One hand washes the other. Sure, the NBA wants it. Adam Silver is a big fan of soccer (see: midseason tournaments) and annual updates to uniforms, especially "change kits," are part of the game. But Nike is the one designing the uniforms and I worry they're going scrape the bottom of the well pretty soon. But, ultimately, we're arguing aesthetics. I still don't like that home teams don't have to wear white at home. Get off my lawn.
Because I've read "Nike-designed" on every uniform story I've seen over the last couple of years. I could be wrong, but whatever. I still don't like the pace of the changes.
Nike has a heavy influence on these jerseys. The company didn't pay almost $1 billion just to simply have their swoosh attached to the jerseys. Nike can recoup a good % of that money back on the sales of jerseys and apparel they sell. What better way to accelerate that ROI than to influence the NBA to have new designs for every team every year?
Soccer clubs have been redesigning new jerseys every year for ages now. It's not THAT big of a deal IMO. If you don't want it don't buy it.
