    http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/...second-round-pick-phoenix-suns-darrell-arthur

The Brooklyn Nets acquired Jared Dudley and a 2021 second-round draft pick in a trade with the Phoenix Suns on Friday, league sources told ESPN.

The Nets will send the Suns forward Darrell Arthur, whose $7.4 million contract will be bought out and waived, league sources said.

The 2021 pick is protected to No. 35, league sources said.

Nets general manager Sean Marks has hoarded multiple picks in the next several drafts, including two first-round picks in 2019 (Denver's protected first), and nine total second-round picks across the 2019, 2020 and 2021 drafts.

The Suns will save $2.1 million on Dudley's $9.5 million for 2018-19. Phoenix had been discussing a contract buyout with Dudley, but the Nets have a need for Dudley's shooting ability as a stretch four position and could stay with them for the season.

Dudley, 33, will be starting his 12th NBA season, and has averaged eight points a game in his career.

Arthur was acquired with Kenneth Faried in a trade with Denver, which brought the Nets a 2019 protected first-round pick.

Weird trade, I wonder why Phoenix is shedding salary.

Maybe to make a play at Yogi Ferrell?

Yea it's gonna take a lot more than $2 million in cap space to make that work. Dudley would have been a good piece with Chandler for matching purposes in a Ryan trade. Kings are really only the really reasonable landing spot right now with their abundance of cap space and mediocre expiring conracts for matching. It looks like trading Ryan will be all about saving money, so I guess we didn't eat enough Rainforest Cafe this summer.

Dudley can definitely still shoot, but he wouldn't get any burn here.

He’s a career 39.6% 3pt shooter. If he can at least some defense still, he would get some time to shoot corner 3s. It would be worth it to get him for cheap.

Suns oh suns...sent their own 2nd rounder, sent 1 mil in cash to trade away a vet lockeroom leader to get an expiring player that plays the position of the 1 pick they just drafted...
Their 2nd rounder could very well be no.31.

    Why so stupid

They made the move to open cap space for the Richaun Holmes trade.

    yes thats what I posted.
An expiring who plays the position of their new pick. Can't even teach him how to play defence or anything.

Is it fair to say that more than half of NBA trades are made more for salary cap motivations than for purely basketball reasons?
