Written by the head writer of the Last Airbender. If it has any of the magic of the Last Airbender, I will be super happy. It's premiering September 14.
I agree. The first thing I thought when I saw it Bringing up The Last AirBender was a mistake cause I immediately started comparing their animation and it is not even close Rocket River
korra was shyte, but if it is anywhere near the last airbender, will watch. the last airbender was so good they even gave him a prominent role in dr strange.
There were a lot of missteps in LoK, but season 3 of Korra was great (with the White Lotus). Unfortunately, that was followed by a not-good season 4. Might start Dragon Prince tonight.
Non-spoilery thoughts: Overall, I thought it was extremely, extremely garbage, especially when it was compared to ATLA. And idk about the rest of you CFers who have finished it, but my favorite character was the mute general. And that's pretty sad, since she was so minor. They tried to shoehorn in too much humor People will say that "it's just a kid's show" and "don't read too much into it...just enjoy it." But it's really hard when I felt like ATLA and Korra never ran into these problems. This series started off really well, and then took a nosedive in storytelling quality, imo, in the latter half of the season. Spoilers and my thoughts / questions on the season - aka, I go off on the dumb storylines in this show: Spoiler They ended on THAT note? The ending felt like a regular episode ending, to me. The princes' locations were revealed, and...we'll have to wait until next season to see if the two "evil" siblings caught up? What the eff. It's not even some revelation. If they had to end the season around there, they should have have the egg start cracking while the camera fades to black and the credits roll. Or, have the egg crack, camera pans out to the group as their expressions give a look of surprise as the dragon hatches, and camera fades to black. Way too many plot holes / weird things with the plot, happening: Callum decides he's a mage because...because he knew one spell (at the time of declaration) and two spells by the time the season ends. And all because he sucks at wielding a sword, in the first episode. lol ok. Erzan jumped into the icy water to save the egg...and Rayla convinces Callum to just let Erzan struggle in the icy water, because...because it's something Erzan has to overcome? Callum even states "he's just a kid," but listens to Rayla, who then apologizes when they think Erzan's dead because he didn't come up for air. He's literally a kid who became physically tired of carrying the egg in his backpack. What makes them think he'll have no problem trying to find the egg in icy water, holding onto it as he swims, and tries to find the small hole that he fell through? WTF kind of storytelling is this?? How did Callum know to throw and shatter the primal stone, to create the storm to hatch the egg? Or was that just a "welp, might as well" thing? How convenient. The girl with Ava (the wolf) obviously went through the whole Cursed Caldera illusion spider thing before, to save Ava's leg - how did she not remember it as something that couldnt hurt her, the second time around, when she essentially led the group through the same circumstance? she went through as if it was her first time going through. What's the deal with the Sunforge blade being able to cut through anything? Why introduce that particular weapon if it's just not gonna be relevant to any storyline? The mute general was probably my favorite character in the season; too bad she was sent away and her trusted general was captured...and then given nothing to do. I thought he would escape and have more to do. Nope, chained up. Speaking of the chained up general, why doesn't the big bad antagonist just kill him? he's (allegedly) killed harrow, imprisoned runaan the elf in the coin thing...why not take out the general as well, since he's a loose end.
For me it's the story. I'm not a fan of this type of animation at all, but it isn't as distracting as I thought it was going to be. The animation is good during the action and during the first couple of minutes when they are explaining the world of the dragon prince, but the CGI becomes noticeable when they are just talking or walking. Th animation is not a deal breaker. The world they have set up is interesting but the execution is poor. This show introduces some pretty heavy concepts then it seems like the writers realize this is an animated show for kids then they scramble to drop in humor in the weirdest places..
My friends raved bout Dragon Prince being the new Avatar and said to give it till Ep 3 for things to pick up. I watched the first 5 episodes and called it quits. The animation is meh, the voice acting is terrible (what's up with the Irish/New Jersey accents on the elves?), and the writing is lazy. It's not a terrible show but it isn't a good one either. Spoiler: Spoiler "The Moonshadow Elves during a full moon are nearly invincible! Nothing in the 5 kingdoms can stop them!" claims Viren and King Harrow! A few scenes later....a group of average human guards and a mage proceed to kick their butts. How does that make any sense?
don't think jontro will be watching this... the schitte animation would drive me cray. did they spend all their budget on the story or something?
Going half-assed CGI is always controversial unless its an intentional art direction (Land of the Lustrous). I'm not a fan.
The animation doesn't bother me much, but I can see why it does for others. It's almost as if they drew only half of the frames. The story has been decent so far. It took a while for Avatar to really kick off.
Finished this last night. I wish it were a better show. It's not terrible but there's nothing about it that makes me want to keep watching. I almost stopped after episode 5, which had painful animation.
