Maybe I'm crazy but I wouldn't mind Barnes as an upgrade over Anderson. With our offense we need a stretch PF anyway, and Barnes is an elite stretch PF he can guard other pfs while providing spacing and acting like an SF on offense.

If Ibaka falls through I wouldn't mind Anderson and Capela trade for Barnes depending on how Onuaku jas been playing.

MAKE THEM PAY! Please make the Mavs match a max offer sheet on Nerlens Noel.

Suns should swoop in and drop 20 mill per on him.

Booker/Jackson/Noel would be a killer young athletic core.

Cubes still dumb he should just pay Noel. He paid Wesley Matthews max money when he is a role player with no offensive skills, now he is penny pinching for Noels who is a much superior player.

Young defensive 7 footers don't grow on trees. If Kanter can make the max when he does nothing on the court then Noels can make the max easily. Mavs have pigeonholed themselves into a corner with Barnes and Matthews, if they let Noels go for nothing they're gonna be stuck in no man's land. At least if they retain their "Little Three" they can upgrade their pieces once Matthews' deal expires.

$15-18M/yr for 4 years is a good deal for the Mavs. That's cheap for a starting C on his second contract.

Yeah, they also signed Barnes to a over 20M x year deal, Matthews to a 18M x year deal...why not even 20M for Noel? Not feeling Smith source here, maybe Noel is asking the max or something very close to it...also seems strange that no other team offered him an 18/20M x year deal at this point...

This pretty much proves my point, you don't build around centers these days and expect to be in the top tier of teams. Without Isaiah, that Horford signing would have had fans throwing fits in Boston. In my opinion, there's only one center in the league worth big bucks and he's an injury risk. Embiid.

Who said anything about building around centers? Nobody thinks Noel should max out at $25+ million/year.

The salary cap has increased nearly 60% the last 3 years. It's $100 million, not $63 million.

What's going to be interesting is a guy like Demarcus Cousins who will expect Gordon Hayward money ($30+ million).

I don't think 18M is building around a center are we building around Ryan Anderson? 15-20M is pretty much what all starting Cs in the league are expected to make. It's not like Mavs have superstars wanting to sign on their team look at the sixers they traded away Noel but now they have to spend 23M on Reddick just because they have no on to spend on.

Mavs got a killing that Noel trade all the guys they sent to Sixers are gone/don't matter, I think if the Sixers could take it back they'd rather pay Noel 18M than Reddick 23M this season.

OK, but when we pay Capela $16-18m (if not $20m), don't start saying we are building around him.

fwiw: the second best team in the league is paying Thomspon $16m.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------

Tangent regarding Noel's and Capela's relatively low MPG for Big Pay Days

The only thing that makes guys like Nerlens and Capela not worth $16-18m is if they can't actually increase their play much past 24 mpg, which they haven't really shown they can, yet. Remember everyone....we are still talking about 24 mpg players in both Noel and Capela. They both have motor issues.

Imagine the scenario where Capela and Noel can never sustain Deandre Jordan's breakout seasons of 34 mpg at the production they produce at their normal 24 mpg. Agents, GMs and Fans will say "They just haven't been given the shot." But, it could be because the original team tried, and the guy just doesn't have the motor to sustain it.

In that scenario, someone will pay them on the potential they can play DJ minutes, then immediately artificially increase their minutes to match the salary, but they don't break out. This happens to centers. They get the pay from being a 1/2 game player, but then can't actually pull off 34 mpg that their pay requires.

Look at Adams, he's not all that close to 34 mpg, either...and he's at $23m / yr...that is the same extension that Giannis just got, too. crazy.
