It’s like asking what difference does it make if they publish accurate stats in box scores. The answer is it doesn’t matter all that much, if you’re not interested in analytics. But there are a lot of people who are. And age/height are important measurables when trying to make projections about a player. Here are other physical measurements like wingspan that could be even more relevant than height, of course. Those should be public too, IMO.
A practicing independent physician should record both height (in bare feet) AND wingspan for certifiable examination by NBA teams. Wingspans are just as important, and likely more correlated to athletic ability, than mere height.
Yes you are right. Apparently the league office was afraid they would have been sued for having false public data. There is also a analytics metric that involves height. However if a gambler is to change their bets on these long known players based on a couple of inches then they deserve to lose all their money because it is simply idiotic. Now age on the other hand IS important. But when you have players like Maker, Ilyasova and Ibaka with legitimate papers and passports with falsely written ages then there is nothing the league can do.
Zion Williamson Officially Measured At 6-Foot-6 Zion Williams was officially measured at 6-foot-6 as the NBA installs new rules for teams to verify accurate player heights. Williamson was listed at 6-foot-7 during his freshman season at Duke.
If we find out that Chris Paul is really only 5-10 and not 6-0 he will no longer be the Point God. He can't be great in basketball as he's obviously too short. All the numbers he put up before will cease to exist because they were all imaginary, just like his height.
First...once you're in the NBA, you're past that stage. Second any team or scout that watches somebody based on their listed height should be immediately fired. If that's what you're going on...why bother scouting at all? Just wait til someone says a guy is awesome, and immediately recruit him...as as apparently actual playv doesn't matter. Finally..people know about how tall someone is regardless of what any team says. If Rockets had said CP3 was 6'6", would anyone actually believe them?
I want official wingspans and heights released. That would be more interesting to compare. Montrezl is short for a forward but his wingspan is ridiculous and the reason he's such a good finisher.
Does it really matter to you that this info should not be public? Why? If it truly doesn’t matter, then there is no reason for the info to be inaccurate. And yet it often is — and intentionally so.
So, if the players that had the correct weight, height, and age, do they get coupons for Applebees or something? What's the incentive for the league or the teams and their players? Who cares about this?
Luka is a bit taller and bigger than I thought. I thought he'd be around 6'5 - 220, like Harden. But, he's an average sized small forward. It's the way he uses his height against the smaller defenders.
