Deep DB FA class, not so deep at OL, but Texans have options

IMO, we need to sign at least 3 DBs (2 CB, 1 S) and 3 offensive lineman.

Still has size/speed concerns, but Brady giving him his imprimatur with that comment has me interested in talking to him.

There's no way we are signing that many guys unless they are cheap (and therefore not that good).

If you are going after the best, expect two at most

I'm hoping for Pugh and Fleming for the oline and then Tre Boston and one of Breeland/Melvin/Fuller at corner. Resign Joseph on a team friendly deal, draft a RG and a CB prospect and let's roll.

I'd take a healthy synergistic combo of 2 OL and a DB or 2DB and an OL from free agency. Norwell and Flemming would be my first choice followed by Pugh and Fleming. With possibly up to 65-70 million in cap space, I'd imagine we can sign 1 top free agent and 2 very good players with$$ still left over to give Clowny a new deal.

Right now Texans real cap space = $29,300,000

    Market values

    Nate Solder = 2 yrs, $26,561,515 — Avg. Salary: $13,280,758
    Andrew Norwell = 5 yrs, $58,924,976 — Avg. Salary: $11,784,995
    Justin Pugh = 4 yrs, $23,983,874 — Avg. Salary: $5,995,968

    Malcolm Butler = 5 yrs, $65,036,065 — Avg. Salary: $13,007,213
    Trumaine Johnson = 5 yrs, $55,311,605 — Avg. Salary: $11,062,321
    LaMarcus Joyner = 5 yrs, $53,247,260 — Avg. Salary: $10,649,452

Solder has a very young, very sick son. I’d be surprised if he moves him away from his doctors.

Pugh avoided back surgery by being placed on IR. (See JJ Watt)

Norwell will be paid 47% more than Brandon Brooks for less production.

    Butler comes with numerous concerns.

And there are 31 other teams vying for FA services, many of whom don’t have owners with a PR problem.

Free agency isn’t free. Or Madden.

This entire premise of this post is intentionally dishonest, which is par for the course I guess but even you know better than to try to pass off 29 million as the cap space the Texans will have to spend.

Also, the "PR problem" is so overstated it's basically comedy at this point.

I know you are a BOB fanboy so I'm not expecting much, but you've gotta do better than this.

"As far as I know, all of that is the furthest thing from the truth," McCourty told NJ Advance Media. "We all knew he wasn't starting all week. That wasn't a secret to the guys on the team.

"I get why people are fishing. The guy played 98 percent of the plays. I just hate that for him character-wise going into free agency. It's just not true. As far as I know -- and I was there all week -- not one time did anything come up."

"It sucked for him," McCourty said. "He put a lot of time and effort in. However it falls, the last thing you want to do is not play a snap. To me, the worst part was to see all that (anonymous) stuff come out after."

"Great teammate," McCourty said. "It's cool for me to see. He came in as an undrafted rookie in 2014 and didn't know a thing about playing in the NFL or life as a NFL player. He's grown so much."

"From there," McCourty said, referring back to Butler's career-changing interception, "he could've easily fell into the trap of hit every appearance and make as much money as possible and think it's all just going to happen. Instead, he skyrocketed."

"It's been great to watch him develop," McCourty said of Butler. "To watch him, maybe, be late one day his rookie year, and say, 'Hey Malc, you can't do that.' And then becoming a guy you can count on who is very dependable.

"If he decides it's hard to come back after that, anywhere he goes, the guy is a great football player and probably one of the most competitive people I've been around. With all my guys, we're teammates and friends for life."

People are delusional if they think we can rebuild the OL. secondary, special teams, depth and TE in one season.

We can probably hope for two good free agents, and that's assuming we identify the right guy. Even then, they won't be cheap.

    Trumaine Johnson, Norwell, Jimmy Graham.

Seek a value RB signing if you can get one.

    Make some more cuts.

Draft and street free agents after that.
