Jackie Chan as the 'clown' has made him rich, but when he plays a serious badass, that is when he shines the most. If you have never seen Dragon Fist, find it and watch it. It is still to this day one of my favorite movies.
JC's filmography has been pretty extensive, post-Rush Hour trilogy. He just hasn't made many films in the US; over in Asia, dude is still god-status.
That's probably what happens when you spend most of your life getting punched, kicked, and thrown off of high places.
Just saw this, Clutch. I stopped watching the trailer about halfway through because of your "warning." I also hate trailers that essentially show you nearly everything of significance in a film before you have had the chance to see it. Anyway, it looks excellent! Jackie is an underrated actor, in my opinion, and I've been a Brosnan fan since his Remington Steele days. On my list of flicks to see, for sure. I'm very much a film addict. My father usually took us to the movies 2 or 3 times a week growing up. It was his way of relaxing and he was a film addict himself. One of his first jobs as a teenager during the Depression was as an usher at a local movie house. 5 cents an hour! We'd go to drive-in's in Houston during the week, or the local single screen theatre on Telephone Rd., the Santa Rosa. On weekends we went to the old vaudeville palaces downtown that are gone now (a crime), but were movie theaters for decades. Afterwards, we stuffed ourselves on chili dogs at the original James Coney Island, downtown. Those were the best chili dogs the world has ever known. All the locations created since then, and the chili dogs, are a joke in comparison. I could eat 3 at a sitting and seriously think about another. The chairs were those old single seat school chairs with the top curving around from one side. A RC Cola or Dr. Pepper, a bag of chips, and several dogs were a slice of Houston heaven! Sorry for getting off track. Now I'm hungry.
I saw the IMDB credits and saw charlie murphy in there. wrong one http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3647676/?ref_=tt_cl_t3
You should expand on this. I was very entertained. I mean that's barely one page of a book but I think there's a story in there
Anyone watched? Friends say it's good, rotten tomato score say it's a mixed bag. Not a full-fledged action movie like the trailer suggested.
It was okay. I normally wouldn't say this about most movies, but this one had too much plot. The IRA as terrorist subplot was almost like a different movie in comparison to the Jackie Chan revenge plot. Brosnan and Chan are great in their roles, but it overall just seemed clunky.
Bad movie. Only one scene where Jackie Chan does his old acrobatic stuff, the rest is copped from movies starring aging action heros who can't do any stunts anymore...oh wait I just described this movie to a tee. Throw in some laughable Rambo 1 moments against a sad, decadent enemy (the IRA hasn't had teeth in two decades), and the movie this most reminds me of is actually Ghost Dog with Forest Whitaker. Ghost Dog was a better made movie, but it had that same feeling of an old out of shape hero doing some Finish Him moves on a flashing red boss--in that case, the balding, fat, going-broke New Jersey mafia. The only reason I would give anyone to watch this movie would be for the inevitable sequel and trilogy to come. Obviously people have found gold in the old-man-out-for-revenge trope, first with Liam Neeson then with Keanu Reeves. Now it's Jackie Chan's turn to cash in. Do yourself a favor and watch Police Story 1 and 2 if you haven't yet; those old Jackie days were the best.
Yeah, wish it was just an all out Jackie Chan movie where he gets to kick ass more than 3 scenes. Jackie Chan doesn't need plots. Let him do his thing for an hour and a half and I'm good.
