    That’s not how this works.

Forcing a turnover does not create more possessions for yourself. It ends the opponent’s possession and starts a new one for you.

You could say a fast pace, forces your opponent to be more mistake prone with the possessions they have, therefor getting less shot attempts out of their possessions, but again faster pace and forcing turnovers does NOT give you more POSSESSIONS than your opponent.

that’s what I mean you get more shot attempts. For a streak shooting team that’s a good thing. It can also mean you are getting higher percentage shots when it’s a running situation.

One thing we know for sure, Morey has done the math.

And pace is a factor in how they want to play because the data supports it.

You are really nitpicking here. Ending their possession by creating a turnover is effectively creating more possessions for yourself, as the possessions you’re ending for the other team necessarily can not result in points.

Understanding what creating possessions means is important in basketball discourse, because comparing how many possessions a team gets in a game is often more effective at explaining defense than pace is.

Not nitpicking. The terminology posters are using have certain definitions when discussing the game. Pace and possessions being two used in this discussion.

The point is every game at the end of the game both teams played the same pace. Where pace is defined as possessions per game. Causing more turnovers than your opponent does not increase your pace over your opponent. It helps in tilting the scoring opportunities in your favor. And you don’t have to play a fast pace game to cause a lot of turnovers.

An important distinction to make is that it doesn’t matter your pace. And clearly playing faster does not equal playing better. Playing faster with THIS roster is obviously preferable, but we played slower, much slower, in the past and were a far superior team.

Sorry, but it's quite obvious to me, he's coming down the other side of the bell curve. Just doesn't have the explosion he had a few seasons ago. He compensates with his incredible BB IQ however. He's got another year or two left of his prime, and he's definitely not ever going to win the MVP again. I've been saying for months now, if you could put a package together that centers around him and Booker, you would do that yesterday. Of course, that would never happen, just saying.

    Disagree.

Harden is in his prime as a player.

Still no, but I guess this series will show us if we made the right move.

Shooting career best percentage. Lowest turnover to assists ratio ever and playing the best defense he has played probably ever. But yeah he is in decline. You offer him to Phoenix they would do it in a heart beat .
    You are truly delusional

Yeah, and I'm not alone either on this board with him being in decline and would welcome a trade eventually. LeBron is in the MVP race this season and is not at all in his prime, even he would tell you that. Doesn't mean you can't be very productive still. Like Harden, his IQ makes up for growing deficiencies. Like the stock market you sell high. I'd give up Harden for Booker, Doncic or AD in a heartbeat. If you took off the homer glasses, you would too.

Yes, and as I said he's on the downward curve of that prime, not the upward curve. He has maybe, maybe 2 seasons left, then it's a wrap. He will no longer be a top 3 player in this league and the Rockets/Harden window will be closed.

What exactly has AD done again? And I mean aside from this year without the help of one of the greatest players ever to play the game? Big men like AD don’t win you rings. Wouldn’t do Booker either...

    Now Luka is another story.

Leading the L in scoring with a playbook to double swarm James has been tough to watch in his decline.

I think a CP3 and Harden led Rockets given what we know today would be the favorites to win the West.
