Wasn't sure where to put this but didn't want to clog up the GARM anymore. John Shurna is heading to Houston for a workout with the rockets (see tweet). Does anyone know anything about him. He went undrafted in 2012 so we could sign him outright, he was waived by Knicks during last season (unguaranteed contract) and played summer league with the Hawks.

Saw my boy John Shurna at airport headed to work out w/ Houston Rockets! Looks like Rockets may be hosting a mini camp/workout this week actually. Seeing another undrafted 2012 player:

Jaka Blazic starts mini camp workout today with @HoustonRockets
— Sead Galijasevic (@SeadGalijasevic) June 21, 2013

Shurna was a fun player to watch in college. He is probably the best player in Northwestern basketball history and it's a shame that he couldn't lead the Wildcats to that elusive first trip to the NCAA tournament. But with that being said, as the scouting report alluded to, I'm not sure of what he could bring to the league. He was a volume scorer and a nice shooter in college, but he got by largely on IQ and guile and he's not a great athlete. I suppose with the right team, he could be a Steve Novak type.
How's his defense? I remember somewhere a while ago that Morey said we're looking for a wing defender. Any potential in that regard?
Not great. Because he lacks that explosive quickness, I don't know that he could stay with a lot of 3's and he's not a banger that I would expect to be able to body up 4's. He'll work hard, everyone raves about his motor, but I just don't think he'll do enough on that end. Defense was the big knock on him coming into the draft and if NBA teams had felt good about that part of his game, I'm guessing he would have been selected at some point because he really does know how to score.
Jaka Blažič is a pretty good player, but he just signed a three-year deal with Crvena Zvezda. You'll have a chance to see him this summer in Vegas playing for the Bucks.
