actually, that 1/512th number is on the low end of the estimate, which is anywhere from 1/32nd to 1/1024th. either way, it does confirm that she has some native american blood and it was obviously part of her family lore that was passed down. i do think its kind of lame to claim native american heritage when you are at best 1/32nd though. and the fact that harvard touted her as native american when she taught there is pretty douchey.

my great grandparents are from mexico and i did a dna test recently showing i have 5% native american (1/20th) and 13% iberian peninusla...but i would never call myself hispanic or native american on a job or school application or census...that would be douchey.

I'm 1/32nd Cherokee. I would never claim to be Native American. Not because I'm ashamed of it, but because to me it's such a small percentage that it doesn't register. Sorry Senator, but your trying to be something you're not.
