    https://www.si.com/college-football/2019/04/30/dana-holgorsen-houston-west-virginia-recruiting

Holgorsen says he never told West Virginia about the negotiations with Houston. “This was never a play for more money,” he says. Few want to speak about it extensively, but this deal was done weeks before it was announced on Jan. 2, with Fertitta and Holgorsen verbally agreeing to terms before the Cougars played in the Armed Forces Bowl on Dec. 22 while coached by Major Applewhite, an oblivious lame duck who presided over a 70–14 loss to Army.

Applewhite with a grandma office. ;)

Holgorsen explains his recruiting plan from his new Houston office. He’s redecorating, ridding the place of a motif he compares to “grandma’s home,” he says.

He would be in the NFL right now if he didn’t get hurt. Hopefully another year will help him get healthier.

Houston received a commitment from graduate transfer OL Gio Pancotti.
Pancotti (6'6/310) didn't get much playing time during his two seasons at Texas Tech, appearing in just four games in the 2017 and 2018 seasons. Having graduated in three years (he redshirted in 2016), Pancotti will be eligible to play immediately and have two seasons of eligibility remaining at Houston. The Cougars, who are now led by former West Virginia HC Dana Holgorsen, return three starters from last season's offensive line (seniors Josh Jones, Braylon Jones and Jarrid Williams).

We are really loading up on transfers (12 on defense alone).

I get that staff changes usually coincide with roster shuffling, but I really hope Dana is committed to recruiting Houston and isn't looking for a quick fix that will ultimately leave us holding the bag a year or two from now.

Wasn't the big draw of hiring Applewhite the fact he was supposed to be a master recruiter with one of the most powerful Texas high school football networks?

It was, but that was one of the complaints, he didn't.
Also, where do you find that transfer information?

It shows how depleted we were on defense for them to take all these guys. We were paper thin in the secondary we aren't too bad up front if everyone comes back healthy that got injured last year. DH says he doesn't like the 1yr transfers but guys that have 2 and 3yrs to play he has no problem taking transfers like that.

Thats's what we were told when he was hired, but we see based on the classes he brought it that was a crock of ****.

Or...u need a quick fix for this upcoming season. Which will allow you to recruit Houston in the future. He was hired late in the recruiting process.

I think he was talking about Applewhite ... or at least I think so.

Yeah. I was talking about Applewhite.

My guess isn't that Applewhite was a terrible recruiter (our offense certainly didn't suffer for talent), it's more that D'Onofrio completely ruined whatever marginal defensive talent we had come in.
